On Probation

"This is a probationary hiring," Quentin Travers explained to the man, "as this is highly irregular. We have never accepted someone of your age. But your resume is impressive."

The man on the other side of the desk asked, "Am I not old enough to hold such a position?"

"Watchers are trained from a very young age," Travers said. "We face many…odd challenges.You must be prepared for anything."

The man was amused. "I have seen strange things," he said. "Do not fear for me."

"Very well, Mr. Denethorson," Travers said, standing to shake the man's hand. "We shall see how you fare."

The man accepted the handshake, and Travers noticed his grip was unusually strong. "Call me Faramir."
