He had really never noticed it before. Not really.

Well, mou, he may be on guard most of the times, despite his careless and happy-go-lucky kind of way, but no, he didn't notice everything.

Like the way Meryl hummed every once in a while.

Oh, Millie hummed all the time, he knew that. But her tunes were happier, simple and sounded rather bucolic-like, all with a specific rhythm, yet all the same and also, sometimes tuneless. Ah, was he making no sense again? Or was it Millie and her humming? Well, anyways, Vash liked to think they belonged to her homeland, which was probably true.

Either way, her humming was easier to pick up than her sempai's, that's for sure. The older of the two women liked to hum while walking, cleaning her Derringers, making the beds, taking care of the Thomases, cooking her soup... And only when she believed no one was hearing. It was just odd to him that, when he did notice she hummed, that she chose to hum that particular song. Rem's song. "So… hitotsu me no yoru ni Izuko kara koishi ga sekai ni ochiru…" Vash's lips curled into a knowing grin, the blindfold over his eyes shifting a little as his expression lifted and he paused his training just for a brief moment. She's making her bed. "So... yotsu me no yoru ni Nami no ko wa kishibe ni shibuki wo ageru." Again, he found himself smiling while descending the stairs and heading to the kitchen. Brewing soup today, huh? A few hours late, after lunch, her same humming was heard as he closed the front door, a bag full of fresh doughnuts in his arm. "So... itsutsume no yoru ni Sono kakera ikudomo yonamo wo tataku." What's she up to now? A quick glance into the living room and he could catch a sight of her sweeping the windows with a cloth. Much, much later that day, as he made his way back into his bedroom to retire for the day and done with his visit at the still knocked-out Knives, Vash heard her again. A bit muffled this time. "Saa... atarashii sora ni

Subete wo shirushita kumikyoku ga hibiku."

Now with a slightly mischievous grin dancing in his lips, the spiky haired plant turned his head and stood face to face with the bathroom door.

So, insurance girl, you also hum in the shower, eh?

The next couple of minutes, he spent them laughing.
