A/N: Thank you for reading my story. It's amazing to see how many people like this one. I will try to update again as soon as possible!
Flying for hours, her mind slipped into a peaceful state. Her worries and frustration at her husband passed long ago. She had a feeling Blade would follow her though. They Day-Walker was predictable like that. But her focus was more on going home. She needed something familiar for a while.
She needed, him.
Blade felt like he had been riding his bike for days. Her hadn't caught sight of the Queen. Drake had given him directions where she would be going and how to get there, but he didn't understand why she was going south. Their home wasn't south. Their home wasn't even on this continent. She was headed somewhere else, somewhere Drake didn't know of. That was making him wonder what she was planning. If she was really going to back home.
After about four days, Genevieve was fed up with all the chasing. He wasn't going to let up. She didn't want to be followed anyways by him, knowing he would probably be sending updates to Drake. Yes, she knew of her King's plans. He was also predicable like. Just like her husband. Now that she thought about it, they were more alike then they knew. It made her laugh, something she hadn't done in a while now.
Waiting in a secluded spot on a single lane road, Blade was unaware of the Queen watching him. The forest they were in helped with her positioning high in a tree. The Day-Walker drove by without knowing he had passed her. He had become the hunted and that made her smile. Jumping from her perch, she flew closely enough to keep an eye on him, but high enough to stay out of sight, just in case a human would spot here out here.
Blade himself was frustrated now, she couldn't have gotten that much of a lead on him. He was maxing out his bike as it was.
"Nice day, isn't it?"
"How long have you been following me?"
"A good two hours now." Genevieve laughed.
Blade turned his attention to the Queen vampire flying to his left, just at his head level. She looked happy and free as she flew closely to him. No wonder he couldn't catch up to her. We technically he did, just not the way he would have expected.
"Drake sent me."
She nodded, her smile fading. "Yes, I figured. You do not possess a caring heart."
Blade fell silent with that comment. He did care, he just never knew how to process it. This situation was different though, a quarell between a King and his Queen. Blade was out of his element with this one. Put an army of the undead in front of him and he was fine, but put something dealing with emotions of someone else, let alone his own, and he was in a different world.
Yet, he found himself caring for this female. She was a friend, or at least coming close to one. She was also an ally in his eyes. She fought for the greater good, not just her own selfish desires like others he knew.
"I care, Genevieve. I never do anything without meaning to."
"I know that as well, Day-Walker." her smiled had returned somewhat. "So tell me, are we going to speak as such, or should we stop. Last thing a human would want to see is a flying vampire coming at their vehicle."
She made a valid point. Humans were bound to see her if they kept this up. So he turned off, driving his bike straight into the woods on their right. Geneveieve smiled and followed pursuit. She watched him carefully avoid fallen trees and large boulders that would harm his transportation. A small smirk came to her lips as she watched his antics. He was good, very good for a half breed. But he carried a certain code of conduct to him that she came to admire.
A few more minutes of driving through the thick forrest and they had come to a secluded lake. Blade stopped his bike and waited for the Queen to arrive. She wasn't far behind but it gave him time to get his vehicle and take in the scenery. The lake was deep by the looks of it and there were ducks swimming about the surface. The sun was high in the sky, rising from the night before. It casted its refection brightly against the water below. The cool water rose up in vapors as it heated with the sun, creating a thin layer of fog over the lake. It was serenity compared to the city life.
"I miss these mornings. Living in the cities of humans have made one loose sight of what is truly beautiful in life." she said coming from behind him. Her wings had disappeared again as she came forward to stand next to him.
"I agree." he replied calmly, crossing his arms. "So... where are you headed. Home is over the ocean I believe."
She smirked. "I was going to see an old friend."
"Another vampire."
she shook her head. "No, but someone who is along that line."
Blade turned to her. What did that mean?
"You need not worry, Day-Walker. He is of no danger to you, unless you anger him."
"Who is he? Does Drake know him?"
"No, the King was in his slumber at the time." she replied. "He aided me when I needed him a few hundred years ago. I need to see him."
"Because..."
"Because I feel as such. I need not explain myself to anyone. Not anymore."
"Drake wants you back." Blade said.
"Yes, he wants a lot of things." Genevieve retorted slightly upset. "He will not have me until he can prove he has learned how to be what he was before. The King he was meant to be. Time had corrupted his mind, Day-Walker. Time and power has changed the man that I once knew."
He knew her mind was made up and honestly he couldn't blame her. But his city was in the hands of her said husband. If he came back empty handed, it would not end well for humanity. Everywhere he would go in search of her would be a blood trail. The only means to stop him was long gone. The anti-virus they had created was no more, the creator dead.
With his mind made up, Blade sighed. "I can't just leave empty handed. You know your husband better than I do. What do you think he would do?"
Genevieve smiled, knowing the answer herself. "Yes, I see your point."
Suddenly there was a rustle not to far from them across the water. Both of them froze and turned their attentions to it. Genevieve's gaze darkened as she focused for any movement. Blade himself unsheathed his sword, ready for a fight. A good moment passed though, and no other sound was heard. But they knew better.
"I have counted eighty-one heart beats."
Blade's hearing wasn't as advanced as the vampire Queen's but he too knew there was a large number of unexpected visitors. He kept at the ready for anything.
"And they have surrounded us."
"Sounds like an even match."
Genevieve's smile brightened, her canines visible. "So we are agreed."
Blade merely nodded. Neither of them cared for what was hiding in the forest lines but they were ready for a fight. Both had shared an unspoken agreement and both were ready when the time was right.
Back in the city, Abigail and Hannibal were seated in their old hide out. Cleaning had been already done and it was time to move. With Blade going about doing his normal brooding things, they were a little lost with what to do next. They hoped they were going become a new unit, someone to help fight off the vampires. The knew of Blade's tendency to be alone and work alone, but they knew he would want something to help fight off the bad guys. They were good to have in a fight. Their last battle with the King and Queen proved that.
"You think he's ever coming back?"
"Yeah, he will." Abigail said, counting her arrows.
"He will return to take back this city." a third voice said from the shadows. "You can stake your lives on that."
Both youngsters jumped at the voice, ready to attack when they saw who it was. Drake himself was smiling as he came into view. He had been there for nearly the entire time they had been, watching them from the shadows.
"You children need a little tutoring in the knowledge of hunting. I have been here for some time know."
"Great another stalker." Hannibal stated sarcastically.
"So to speak I suppose." Drake nodded. "Blade did say he wanted as such."
"Where is Blade?" Abigail snarled. "You spoke to him?"
"We have an... agreement at the moment."
"What kind of agreement?"
"He is to bring my Queen back to me, while I watch over his city. Clean up the trash as it were."
Both Nightstalkers shared a glance. That made no sense. Why in the world would the vampire King was to off his own kind?
"And before you think this is a trap, it is not. I am genuine with my term of the agreement." he slightly bowed.
"Forgive me for not taking a vampire's word seriously." Hannibal replied. "Been there, done that."
"Take it as you want it, human. I have said my peace. Good evening." Drake said turning around and walking out into the shadows once again.
