The first year after Gellert wakes he is silent, and in his silence Albus finds peace. He hurts when he should feel triumphant, but the grim set to Gellert's jaw tells him he deserves this. One man's suffering is not too much to ask for the greater good and in this he finds solace.
The second and third year bring snide remarks and caustic barbs. Albus tells himself he doesn't mind but in truth it stings. He smiles and makes small talk because he did rob this man of his future and the least he can do is put up with some verbal abuse. He tries to let it go but some nights he cries and thinks himself weak.
The fourth year Gellert asks why Albus couldn't have given him thicker socks. He moans that his feet are cold and Albus honestly didn't think that could happen. He apologizes and promises to put him near the fireplace. With a long suffering sigh Gellert forgives him.
The year Albus finally joins him above the fireplace is full of bickering and Harry quips that they are like an old married couple. Gellert threatens him with Unforgivables for that remark and Albus just smiles rather wistfully.
The next year they marry on a beach with a glowing sunset in the background. Albus colours prettily when Gellert sweeps him off his feet and calls him a romantic fool but his eyes say iloveyou and Albus has never been happier.
These days they travel the world. Last week was Rome, Japan the week before and Harry promises to bring Egypt next. It is a good existence Albus thinks but sometimes the dust gathering at the corners of the frame make Gellert sneeze and his paint is starting to peel. Albus makes a mental note to have Harry perform a restoration charm the next time he visits and goes back to dozing in Gellert's arms.
