Silence enveloped the small room. It had been hours since either of the two occupants had spoken to each other. Uncertainty and hesitation filled the air between them, neither wanting to speak first.
"Yami, I want to do this," Yuugi said, breaking the silence. "It's the one thing I can give you."
Yami sighed, gliding from his seat on the lone chair in the room to Yuugi's bed. "Then I guess we should start."
"I knew you'd give in," Yuugi laughed, drawing a hand up to cup Yami's transparent cheek. "It'll be for the best, I promise."
Yami hesitated for a moment before bringing a shaking finger to rest on Yuugi's forehead. He closed his eyes, starting to murmur indistinctly.
Suddenly the doorway to Yuugi's mind appeared. Golden tendrils spouted from the eye, travelling down Yami's hand and body. The life in Yuugi's amethyst eyes slowly faded, yet his smile remained.
And it stayed, until there was nothing left of the being that was once Yuugi Mutou, except the pieces of the now destroyed Sennen Puzzle.
Yami slowly looked over his new body made of flesh and blood, and began to cry.
