"Look, I'm not saying that I don't love you..."

The whale's eyes narrowed sharply at the old, rusted captain. Behind her, a small child stood on the creaky dock. His eyes were filled with confusion, mixed with sadness. The ones that, over the years, he called respectively as Mommy and Daddy were fighting. But, why?

It was true; Flapjack knew they had their small arguing games every now and again. But, he always knew they'd kiss and make up after the fact. He even saw them smooching through peeping, and, frankly, the little boy could probably witness more of this if Bubbie didn't send him to the store so often.

Still, he couldn't figure it out. Why did his hero and his mother fight? They were both good people, weren't they? If that was the case, then the two had no reason to spit in each other's faces.

The words of hate flooded through Flapjack's ears, and the confusion was swirling in his mind. The more he heard of this madness, the more he wanted to break down. The more they hated, the more he wanted to scream. The more he bottled it up, the more he felt his brain on the verge of busting.

"Stop!"

For once, the two opposite sides ceased, only with a blink and a stare to their respective son. They did, after all, agree to care and tend for him as if he was their own when Bubbie found him.

"What is it, child?" The whale held a forlorn expression when she saw Flapjack's scorn stare, flooded with tears. She hated seeing her baby this way, and, truthfully, so did K'nuckles.

"You and Daddy both need to stop fighting!" Both cringed at these words. Granted, the adventurer had no parents; no family, but those nicknames were cruel if one never wished to have a child. "You two love each other!"

The two glanced at each other, then back to the boy. One could draw the conclusion where he learned that from, and he was right (though K'nuckles would never admit to such). They did care for one another, despite the thorns they gave to themselves and others.

Sometimes, it takes the innocence of a child like Flapjack to spot the light in the dark times like these.
