As the sun came up so did Hikari. Why you ask she was up at five in the morning? Well, she was excited of course. Today is her birthday. Turning 18 after all is pretty big. And since it was her birthday, she knew she had to look perfect. With a light baby doll pink shirt and a white mini skirt she knew nothing could go wrong. She was wrong.

"Good morning sweetie." Her mom welcomed her with excitement. There was a plate of Cheri Berry pancakes on the table. She suggested since it was her birthday her mom decided to make her favorite for breakfast.

"Well?" she was confused that Ayako had not greeted her.

"Well what?"

Hikari was shocked that she still did not greet her! "Uh, maybe I can refresh your memory. Today is June 24."

"Doesn't ring a bell" Ayako was confused by her daughters remark

"You have got to be kidding me! Today is my birthday!!" panting now Hikari headed out the door with tears in her eyes. Of course she was heading somewhere. She was going to her best friends.

"Wait sweetie I'm sorry. Don't go, your pancakes will get cold!"

'I bet Takeshi and Satoshi have something planned for me' the feeling of knowing that her friends had something planed for her birthday made Hikari regain her happiness and excitement. Satoshi and Takeshi where staying at a Pokemon center getting prepared to continue their journey.

"Pikachi use Thunderbolt!" Satoshi was battling a trainer who had just now lost after that exhilarating Thunderbolt. After the usual 'Great battle!' from Satoshi…

"Oi Hikari! What's up?" Satoshi was excited to see her friend but, Hikari on the other hand was not expecting that kind of greeting from Satoshi.

"What's up? Is that all you got to say!?" She was ready to take a punch but was restrained by Nurse Joy.

"Hikari what did I do wrong!?" Satoshi was frightened of Hikari.

She sighed," Nothing Satoshi.Where is Takeshi?"

"Oh you just missed him. He went back to Pewter gym to be gym leader again. Isn't that great?" Satoshi seemed to forget that he was almost attacked by a girl.

"Yeah great. Later." Hikari was disappointed that her expectations from Satoshi. She decided the best thing to do was to take a walk to clear her mind. 'Maybe they're throwing me a surprise party! No I doubt it, Mom is so easy to see through since she's terrible at keeping secrets. Mayb-'

"Oww"

"Watch it troublesome", Hikari must have tripped over a rock. She was so lost in her thoughts that she tripped into… Shinji? When she looked at his face and recognized him, a bright blush was suddenly on her cheeks.

"Uhh my bad", She was so embarrassed she fell on her crush

"Yes it is your bad stupid girl", he replied with a glare. She just gave a simple growl. Hikari was confused. Why was Shinji here in Twinleaf Town and not in Veilstone. She decided to ask him despite his rude remarks.

"Hey Shinji why are you here in Twinleaf?"

"What, I can't just decide to come over to Twin Leaf troublesome?" There was something in his pocket that made Hikari suspicious.

"What are you hiding "

"I'm not hiding anything stupid girl"

"Yes you are"

"No I am not. Look I'm not gonna stand here arguing. So here", he tossed a small wrapped box to Hikari. When she caught it, Shinji walked up to her and gave her a kiss on her lips," Happy birthday Hikari" Shinji walked away heading torwards the sunset.

'He remembered my birthday and my name?' All the irony on her face turned to happiness. After all, it is her special day.
