Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note, Shakespeare, or any of his plays. And I don't own Light, either – in fact, he probably thinks he owns me considering the whole 'god of the new world' thing and all…
A/N: So I had a random desire to continue this series with a character from Death Note, and kind of wound up debating between Light, L, and Matsuda… and, obviously, deciding on doing Light first. I'll probably do L next, because if I don't, my friend Reneey the L fangirl will be writing my name down somewhere…
Why Light Yagami Was Not in Shakespeare
Hamlet
Light Yagami was not in Hamlet because there weren't any chairs at the watchpost to fall off of while screaming at the appearance of the ghost. Oh, and because the ghost would've only been interested in talking and wouldn't have helped him purify the world and become its new god. He would then have gone through a long and strenuous battle of wits with his uncle – or someone else, if said uncle's wits weren't strong enough to actually challenge him – after which he would've killed the man and/or tricked someone else into killing him and continued with his former plotting. And of course he would've taken the title of king, too, though he would have pretended to be his uncle to keep up some kind of pretense just because… and someone would've shown up later to call him on it. He would only have stuck with Ophelia if she were able to help him kill more effectively, and would still have died in the end, probably due to the mistake of someone else… but he would've taken a whole lot more people with him before that.
Romeo and Juliet
Light Yagami was not in Romeo and Juliet because… well, let's face it, he would have been too busy killing the unjust and people who had committed crimes to fall in love or any of that stupid, mushy stuff. Oh, but if Juliet had awesome eyes that she gave up half her life for and which could tell him people's names, he would've pretended to be in love with her anyway. He wouldn't have fought with Tybalt, just given him a heart attack – along with the rest of the Capulets and anyone else who dared challenge him. Mercutio would probably have wound up dying anyway, though, for getting too suspicious or for trying to catch the murderer who happened to be his best friend. Because heaven knows being the best friend of and/or probably the only person in the world who can think on the same level of the god of the new world doesn't excuse you from death if you get in his way.
Macbeth
Light Yagami was not in Macbeth because… well, let's face it, he might as well have been. Just throw in a load of criminal deaths as he was paving his way for a new world, give Lady Macbeth – or Lady Yagami – some wicked eyes that were the entire reason he kept her around, and make it the world Light was trying to take over, and you've got pretty much exactly what he would've done. Except he would've made fewer actual mistakes and it would've taken him a lot longer to kill Duncan because he would've tried to outwit him and wouldn't have actually killed him directly… just written his name down in a nice little book and given him a heart attack. Oh, and the guards would've randomly lived and come back later along with Malcolm and Donalbain to overthrow him. But all in all? Light and Macbeth would've gotten along quite well. At least, until they tried to kill one another.
