Chapter 1: Hello Ferret, Goodbye Freedom

"You said what?!" Ginny Weasley could not believe what she had just been told. "Mum this is not possible."

Mrs. Weasley turned away from the piecrust she was rolling out to face her daughter, "Don't you dare start with me young lady. This is what Dumbledore asked us to do and I fully intend on taking this boy in."

"Mum, he is not a boy; he is the spawn of Satan!" Ginny shrieked at her mother, throwing her hands up in exasperation and sending the peals from the apples she was pealing flying all over the kitchen.

"Although I would not wholly disagree with the comparison of my father to Satan I don't appreciate the implication that I was spawned." An oily voice cut through the kitchen. Ginny spun around and came face to face with none other then Draco Malfoy.

"Why hello Mr. Malfoy I am so glad you could join us." Mrs. Weasley hurried forward to great the new arrival.

"No, it is I that must thank you Mrs. Weasley. You are the ones taking me in despite the animosity between our families." He replied sounding almost polite, but Ginny knew it was probably and act.

Malfoy looked the same as he always did. Everything perfectly pressed with his hair in its costmary slicked back styling; he looked incredibly out of place standing in the middle of the Weasley's small hodge-podge kitchen.

"Really, we are happy to do it." Mrs. Weasley insisted with a pointed glare at her daughter. "Ginny, why don't you show Mr. Malfoy to Percy's old room."

"Of course mum. It would be my pleasure." Ginny smiled, gritting her teeth. "Come on Malfoy." Ginny exited the kitchen and walked through the living room. Never turning back to see if Malfoy was following her, she began to mount the stairs. She continued to climb and as she reached the first floor landing Malfoy began to speak.

"So Weaseltte, excited to have me here?"

Ginny didn't even bother to turn around. "Go to hell Malfoy."

"Believe me I am."

She could hear the smirk in his voice and it drove her crazy. She stopped half way up the second flight of stairs and faced him. Starring into to his grey eyes she said, "Ah!! Why are you here? Really?"

"Because I want to spend more time with you red."

"Cut the crap Malfoy." She snarled, flushed bright read with anger.

His eyes turned to cold hard steel at her words. "Where is my room?"

Ginny flung herself down onto her bed and stared up at the white stucco ceiling.

I swear there is someone in the heavens who hates me. I am stuck at the burrow all summer, with only Malfoy and my parents for company. I never thought I would ever be jealous of the wonder trio's job of hunting down old Volde.

Oh no. She had though of them again. Ginny tried her best to avoid thinking about her brother and his friends. Harry, Ron, and Hermione had spent the last six months in hiding supposedly on a mission for Dumbledore. Secret mission my ass, what could they possibly be doing that is so important.

That's not fair Ginny she argued with herself. You know they are working hard and living like crap.

I don't really care though I am the one who is sacrificing my summer.

Ginny had just graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry less then two weeks prior and had been looking forward to an entire summer of partying before starting training to become a medi-wizard in the fall. Well, that is if everything goes to plan. Knowing Harry and Ron though, they will start an all out war the day before I start training, she thought. So much for freedom after graduation. She grabbed her pillow and screamed into it.

Several hours later there was a sudden sharp rap on her bedroom door. "Ginny love, Professor Dumbledore is here and he needs to speak to you and Draco." Her mother informed her.

"What could he possibly want?" She wondered aloud. Swinging legs off her bed she marked her spot in the novel she had been reading, stood, and exited her room to climb the flight of stairs that separated her room on the first floor from the Ferret's on the second.

"Malfoy," she knocked on the door. "Dumbledore is here." She heard and audible groan before the door swung open. Ginny couldn't believe her eyes.

The normally perfectly groomed Malfoy was completely disheveled. His hair had lost it's costmary slicked back appearance and was now sticking up at all angles like he had spent the past few hours going back and forth between running his hands through is and trying to pull it out. He wore only a pair of sweat pants and a white tee shirt. His eyes were slightly bloodshot. Had he looked this bad the when she had brought him up here earlier?

"If you want to change I am sure they won't mind waiting."

Malfoy made a sound that sounded very much like a snort. "Believe me Dumbledore has seen me look much worse then this." He stepped in front of her and started down the stairs.

"Good evening Mr. Malfoy, ms. Weasley. How are you both?" Dumbledore asked as they entered the room.

"Hello professor." They chorused in nearly perfect unison, much to Ginny's annoyance.

"Won't you both please sit down," The old man asked glancing at them both over the rims of his half moon spectacles with a twinkle in his eye. "I am going to skip the pleasantries for now because I have lots to do and very little time in which to accomplish it. So you both know that I requested that Draco be placed here at the Burrow rather then at headquarters but what you don't know is why. Well in short it is because of you Ginevra." He paused and took a sip of tea out of a cup with roses painted on it that Mrs. Weasley must have served him before Draco and Ginny had come down.

"You see, currently Draco is in grave danger. Choosing to betray Lord Voldemort has made him jump to almost the top of the death eaters' most wanted list and although Draco is a very powerful and skilled wizard, the members of the Order felt that it would be better for him is he had some extra protection. Which brings me to you Ginevra. Being the only female to be born in seven generations makes you a very powerful witch. This extra boost of power coupled with the amazing skills you already posses make you the perfect candidate for Draco's protector." Again he paused to drink, irritating both Ginny and Draco who both wanted to get to the end of this ridiculous speech in order to protest it.

"So what I intend to do is use the Fidelius Charm on Draco and make you secret keeper, Ginevra. But as an extra precaution I will also use a slightly altered version of the Fixing Charm to ensure that you both are never more then a couple metres apart."

When the professor had finished his speech Ginny couldn't say anything. It was as if she had been frozen solid from the shock of what she had just heard.

"Are you serious?" Draco asked, still managing to both look and sound bored even though inside he was burning with anger.

"Oh yes my dear boy, quite." Dumbledore beamed.

"Am I able to refuse?" Draco was not just going to roll over without a fight.

"I am afraid that this has to happen for both of your own safety."

This statement caused Ginny to snap out of her trance. "What? You actually think I am safe being permanently bound to a Malfoy?"

If only looks could kill then the petit red head would be no more from the look that Draco shot her. "If this is what you think is best professor, then I will do it." After all that this man had done for him he really couldn't refuse.

"What?" Ginny rounded on the traitor. "Now you're ok with this too?"

"Please Ms. Weasley, you would be doing a great service for the order."

It was all Ginny could do to contain a snort of annoyance as she realized she was trapped. "Fine, I'll do it."

Twenty minutes later Mrs. Weasley shuffled Professor Dumbledore out of the front door with a tin of fudge. The spell had been performed and now Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley were stuck, literally.
