I WANT YOU TO WANT ME
Samantha Forster was at her best friend's ranch, saying goodbye to him as he left for his first year of college. Jake Ely was being hugged by his mom and slapped on the back by his four brothers and his father. Only his oldest brother Kit wasn't there.
Sam stood off to one side, watching the goodbyes taking place. She was fighting tears. One of her hands was in the back pocket of her jeans while the other kept wiping her eyes.
Finally, Jake's family seemed ready to let him go and he turned his head to look at Sam. Slowly, she lifted her brown eyes until they met his dark brown eyes. She could see the curiosity in his as he took in the tears and redness of hers.
How could she tell him? She was well aware of his family watching the two of them. There was no way she could say the words out loud to tell him how she felt about him.
I want you to need me
Like the air you breathe
I want you to feel me
In everything
I want you to see me
In your every dream
The way that I taste you feel you breathe you need you
I want you to need me
Like I need you
I want to be the eyes that look deep into your soul
I want to be the world to you
I just want it all
I want to be your deepest kiss
The answer to your every wish
I'm all you ever need
More than you could know
And I need you
To never never let me go
And I need to be deep inside your heart
I just want to be everywhere you are...
I want to be the face you see when you close your eyes
I want to be the touch you need every single night
I want to be your fantasy
And be your reality
And everything between
Jake widened his eyes, reading it in her mind. Sam had counted on that. At times he had seemed able to read her mind.
Still their eyes locked on those of the other. When Sam had just about given up that he would understand and possibly let her know how he felt, she saw the soft smile that at first twitched over his lips. Then the smile grew a little bit at a time until she saw his white teeth in his dark face.
Still she waited. Did he understand? Did he care? Would he go off to college knowing how much she loved him? Why oh why had she agreed to see him off like this?
The two of them were oblivious to the smug looks his family exchanged. They all had hoped for this one day and they were happy they were able to witness it first hand.
Finally, Jake gave her a faint nod, his smile becoming soft in his face. It wasn't much and to the average person it wouldn't mean much, but to Sam it meant everything.
He knew! He understood and in that faint nod and soft smile, he acknowledged he felt the same way.
As the two stood in the Three Ponies ranch yard surrounded by his family, they pledged to each other that they would continue this at another time. That time could be months or even years from now, but it would be continued.
"Bye Brat," Jake murmured softly to her, their eyes still locked on the other.
"Bye Jake," Sam murmured back and Jake could see the tears mixed with the realization that he understood what she had been trying to say. What she couldn't say with words.
Tearing his eyes way from hers, he got into his truck and with one last glance at everyone there, he drove off. Out of Sam's life for at least four to six years.
It seemed a lifetime to her, but she knew they would be reunited and when they were, he would be everything to her as she would be to him.
