The thing about Mochi was that he had honour.
Misa knew that Mogi liked her a lot. She was lots smarter than people told her, and she knew more about other people, too. So when Mogi blushed and stuttered and looked nervous when she winked at him or laughed or smiled, she knew it meant he thought she was pretty.
(If she hadn't been Light's girlfriend she might have considered it. Or maybe Matsu. She thought a moment of lining the two up in a row and choosing between them like two pairs of shoes, only much more important and permanent, and almost smiled. But that was thought-cheating and she shook the idea away.)
But Mogi had honour. And Misa knew that no matter how much he liked her he would never do anything- it was what made her trust him no matter what. She would shower when he was in the next room and come out dripping wet and dressed in her pajamas and not worry because she could know that he'd be honourable about it.
Sometimes, just sometimes, she wished in the deepest corner of her heart- the place reserved for the most forbidden thoughts- that he'd be the teensiest, littlest bit less noble.
Everytime, she squished the thought as quickly as it appeared, so she'd never really figured out why. But after Light died she'd bothered to think about it for a little while. It wasn't betrayal, really. She wasn't doing anything, didn't have any plans to. She just wanted to know why so she could hunt down that terrible thought and kill it, because Mochi was just a friend.
And honourable.
She thought maybe it was because he was so steady. No matter what, he was always there, innocently and kindly and in the sweetest of ways- just to comfort her when something bad happened and Light couldn't be there. You learned a lot about a person living near them, and near the end when-
No, she couldn't think it, even-
Near the end when It happened, she'd been kidnapped with him. He'd been strong and brave and sensible. She'd been brave, too, they told her so, but maybe not quite so sensible. She might have gotten herself shot, but Mochi had saved her from that.
So maybe those little fluttering forbidden thoughts just came from the fact that she was lacking a little strength. She hadn't cheated on Light- never would. But maybe she just hadn't been strong enough to be his wife, properly.
Mogi came to see her the next day.
The day after that, Matsuda called her.
She never answered.
Half-inspired by another prompt from Bialy. Bear with me, folks; only two more. A prompt and a character, then I stop mangling her inspiration.
This corresponds with the visit MogixMisa drabble from Melancholy and the phone call in Comprehension. -thinks up links too much-
This is probably not too good, because I'm writing this on a kind of googly-eyed daze. And I'm rushing because my sister wants the computer. I didn't even read over this before uploading. So feel free to concrit here.
Slightly different than my usual because I was going for a kind of Misa-ish tone. Which is tough for me, because I'm told I write more like a cross between Near and Rem.
Anyway, hope you enjoy in spite of everything.
PS: Spellcheck keeps correcting 'honour' to 'honor'. :|
