SOMETIMES HE THINKS OF THEM

AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER

House Of Wax belongs to Dark Castle Entertainment. A Nick Jones introspective.

Sometimes he thinks of them. Paige's somewhat ditzy-ness, Blake's love for his car, Dalton's extreme eagerness, and Wade's devotion to Carly. Wade. It hurt the most thinking about him. The guy had always tried to be cool with him and he had given him nothing but grief. Wade would've done anything for Carly. He probably would've ended up going to New York with her had he survived Ambrose. Ambrose. Even a year later, the one word sends chills up his spine. He had lost his best friend and he had nearly lost his twin. When he had found her in that high chair and had seen what that freak Bo had done to her---chopping off her finger---he had been more than willing to kill the guy. But it had been Carly who dealt the fatal blow. After that, everything just seemed to remind him of them. He can no longer look at anything made of wax, not even candles on a birthday cake. He used to think about them all the time. Now it's just sometimes. Like when he sees someone with a camera, he immediately flashes to Dalton. Yes, he's moved forward, but the pain hasn't left. Sometimes it's a good day without remembering that fateful weekend and he's just remembering happier times. And other days it's like a knife has gone through his chest and he doesn't think he can get up. That's when Carly comes to him…helps him…like he helps her when it's too much for her. Though they both survived, they each had a physical reminder of the terror. Carly's reminder is the missing part of her finger. His reminder is the limp that never went away. Sometimes he thinks of them. Maybe not as much anymore, and maybe all the time like he had afterwards, but he never forgets. He doesn't like to. Because when he forgets, he feels as if he's betraying them somehow. Especially Dalton. Dalton. He had covered for the guy…kept his record clean. And yet he couldn't even save him. That was the hardest thing to remember. That he had let him go off by himself only to be killed. On some level, he knew it wasn't his fault, but Dalton had been a great friend. Sometimes he goes a little while without remembering them…and sometimes he thinks of them. Too bad it was all he had left---the thinking. He missed them. He wanted them back. But that would never happen. They were dead and nothing was going to change that. That's why sometimes he thinks of them. To keep a part of them alive…to let them know that they're missed. Once in a while, he'll let himself forget, but sometimes---okay all of the time---he thinks of them. And he always will.
