Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or Yu Yu Hakusho

AN: Just an idea I got while working on Strings. You could say its something of a commentary on an over used fanfic add-on to Hiei's character. Regardless this is just a bit of fluffy humor involving one of my favorite pairings.

Snow Cone

It was mid afternoon as the sun shone down on the shrine. The grounds were empty except for its usual inhabitants. Kagome sat on her favorite bench beneath the God Tree enjoying the hot summer day. A warm breeze passed through the shrine and rustled the leaves of the ancient tree. Kagome smiled and turned to her silent companion. "Would you like to try some?"

Hiei turned to look suspiciously at the frozen dessert held out to him. "What is it?"

Kagome couldn't help but laugh at the menacing look directed at the innocent treat. "It's a snow cone. Haven't you ever seen one before?"

Not at all pleased with her obvious amusement at his expense, Hiei frowned before directing a look of annoyance at Kagome. "If I had, I wouldn't have asked." With that he turned away from her to glare in the direction of the shrine steps.

Kagome's amusement quickly faded when she realized she had upset him. She reached out to tug slightly on his sleeve, as she tried again. "You should try it. It's good."

Hiei turned and after a brief glace at the sincere expression on her face he once again looked at the brightly colored treat. At least it's red. The color is at least appealing if not a bit florescent. As Hiei contemplated her request, he inquired further. "What exactly is a snow cone?"

Seeing Hiei's uncertainty, Kagome knew she had a chance. Her expression brightened immediately as she tired to explain the treat. "It really is good. It's ice that's been shaved to look like snow, then they pour flavored sugar syrup on top to make it taste sweet. This one is cherry. Here." Kagome raised the snow cone closer to Hiei's face as she finished her explanation; hope clearly shining in her eyes as she watched to see what he would do.

Hiei only looked at the snow cone in disgust. Turning to look at Kagome, the incredulousness clear in his voice as he spoke. "Only humans could come up with something as ridiculous as 'sweetened snow' to satisfy their ridiculous cravings for sugar."

Kagome sighed as her head dropped in defeat. She retracted her arm slowly removing the treat from Hiei's reach. She turned to look at him, frustration clear on her face. "I swear you are the only person demon or human who does not like sweets."
