Occam's Razor
by JACmRob
Genii questioned.
Maybe that's what made him a genius—wanting a better answer. He had always questioned.
And usually, he found answers. Usually.
What's the only thing one who knows everything doesn't know?
Occam's Razor ended up being a doubled edged sword. He wanted his answer, but would end up losing if he got it. Or, he wouldn't get it at all. Curiosity killed the cat, Butler had always told him. But cats had nine lives, did they not?
Both ends of the equation yielded zeros. Inconsistency. His question only gave extraneous solutions. Unsolvable by careful calculations.
There were always answers, he knew.
But finding them, that was the impossibility.
What's the only thing one who knows everything doesn't know?
He'd tried every complex and complicated method, equal and orderly system, gathered all his evidence, done all his research. He was still left with Occam's Razor. His original hypothesis. And the only way to prove it?
A paradox.
Would he really attempt it?
Maybe.
But genii didn't settle for mediocre ramblings instead of answers. And if that's what "having a little faith" resulted in, he'd rather have proof. Gods were created by humans. Gods were proclaimed answers without scientific evidence. His mother had always worn a gold crucifix around her neck, and it had never revealed anything. Gods were excuses.
Gods had failed.
What's the only thing one who knows everything doesn't know?
What would happen if they ceased to exist.
And like Socrates said, the unexamined life was not worth living. The mundane life was not worth living. If not living was the price of his answer, it might be worth it after all. Question long enough and you'll eventually find a solution.
He had chosen his side of the double-edged sword.
Genii questioned. He'd rather die a genius than live a failed philosopher. Genii questioned.
And he wondered sadly if he was the first to discover the only way to find it.
Infinity.
Just like Occam's Razor.
A/N: This was my first story for Artemis Fowl. Everybody pick up on the suicidal themes?
It kind of depressed me.
Oh well, =) Give me your thoughts. Review please!
