Tricksters
Transformers 2007 Movie/Stargate SG-1 crossover
Disclaimer: I don't own Transformers. They belong to Hasbro and Takara. I am merely taking them for a short spin.
Dr. Daniel Jackson sat perched on a rock overlooking the desert floor not far from Tranquility Base. He needed a break from the bickering in the lab, time to gather his thoughts, so he'd made the hike. He'd given up on trying to write in his journal, choosing to stare out across the desert instead. The sun was going down, almost time to head back, but the sight of dust on the horizon made him stay where he was. Sun glinted off something metallic, gold and glittering, like its namesake, Sunstreaker. Not far behind came his twin, Sideswipe.
Jackson grinned. They were part of the reason he was out on the ridge. He hadn't told anyone his theory. Yet. He wanted to keep it to himself just a bit longer, if he even bothered to tell anyone.
He knew the legends, most of the Earth versions, anyway, before he ever met the Cybertronian twins. But the ancient Autobot Kup said there were similar stories on Cybertron. And given the mythology on Earth, and what Jackson now had access to, it made sense.
Almost every culture on Earth had a myth about a trickster or two. The local ancient version was Kokopelli, the hunchbacked flute player who brought the rain, and also played pranks. Though a single prankster, other cultures had a dualistic nature. As an archaeologist and anthropologist, Jackson knew this. But his interest as it applied to the twins didn't come until he'd gotten to know them better. And the more he thought about it, the more it made sense.
Twins represented the double aspects of the universe. There were the Hero Twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque from the Mayan holy book, the Popol Vuh, a similar set of twins in Navajo lore, and even Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology, and also Apollo, the sun god, and his sister, Artemis, the moon goddess, also from the Greek.
The twins of legend shared one soul, were two halves of the same whole. Sunstreaker and Sideswipe were the living embodiment of that--the two shared one Spark, yet were two beings.
