Standing Tall

Kabuto honestly never thought he'd be the last one standing. He knew that every one of the Sound Five had been ten times stronger than he, and he was well aware of Orochimaru's limitless power.

Even now, he thought he was in a dream. A genjutsu, even. He didn't believe that after all this time, he was the only one still alive. Even Uchiha Sasuke, as long as he was with them, was dead. He'd been reported murdered by one Uchiha Itachi not long before Orochimaru's own death.

They were all dead. Orochimaru by the hand of sickness and fatigue; the Sound Five by the Konoha nin so long ago; Suigetsu by Hoshigaki Kisame; Juugo by suicide; and even Karin, following shortly after Juugo by using too much chakra trying to bring back her fallen comrades. It was sad, really, and he thought it ironic: for the longest time he'd wanted to be freed from Orochimaru's clutches, and now that he was, he'd given up.

No longer did he want to be free, he just wanted to go find somewhere and die peacefully. Without Orochimaru his life had no purpose, and that scared him. But so did the prospect of killing himself. He couldn't go through with a suicideā€¦he just couldn't.

A pseudo-suicide, he could manage, though.

"Come, Naruto-kun, you can't expect me to believe you're after my life with attacks like those." He taunted to the angry Kyuubi container before him. His only response was a loud screech of pained anger before charging for the silver haired medic. Even though his move instinctively made to move, Kabuto remained still. His eyes closed as Naruto came closer, bringing with him a maelstrom of power and rage.

The hit lasted no longer than a few seconds as the blonde's attack ripped through Kabuto's stomach, sending him flying into a tree at least fifty meters away. After that all he could feel was the mind blowing pain as he forced his instinctive medical chakra back. Naruto drew closer, red chakra swirling like angry smoke around them. He grasped Kabuto by the front of his shirt and pulled back his other fist with wild eyes. "You'll pay for what you did to Sakura," he growled, and Kabuto's eyes traveled to the pinkette lying not far off in a crumpled heap, "dead", before returning to Naruto.

He forced a taunting smirk, "Oh, will I, Naruto-kun?"

The blonde's eyes widened in fury as he released a screech, letting his fist fly. Time seemed to slow as Kabuto closed his eyes with a soft smile.

"Thank you, Naruto-kun," he murmured quietly just before everything turned black, and then he was no longer the last man standing.

He would never know that in that moment of staring death in the face- quite literally- he was stronger than any of them.

Little Kabuto tribute there for ya. Kabuto's actually pretty sweet, guys, no joke. I don't think he's a bad guy, I think he was just corrupted to the point he doesn't know right from wrong anymore.

Blame Orochimaru.

I'll smack him around a few times if you review for me. :D

By the way? I am totally NOT proud of this. It's total crap. El-oh-el.
