Hello all! This is my new oneshot that I wrote out of boredom. Don't worry, I have new chapters of Harp of the Twilight and These Things Will Change coming up soon.
Disclaimer: I don't own The Legend of Zelda. It belongs to Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto and all those smart people over there.:)
Enjoy!

He'd chosen to remain a wolf for the night-an ability he had taken advantage of. After all, the mountains of Snowpeak certainly weren't known for being the most comfortable camping spot in Hyrule.
Link had insisted they camp in a nearby cave-he and Midna had not found a warp spot yet, and he didn't want to make the long, hazardous journey up the deadly mountain again. Begrudgingly, Midna had agreed, seeing the logic in the situation.
She had made herself a sort of cot out of spare blankets, but the sharp, biting wind still managed to nip her bare skin under the thin cotton. It was so cold that the chunks of ice that were scattered about in the cave were eternally frozen-permafrost. Even through the cloth the hard rock ground felt like a sheet of solid ice.
Link had offered her his tunic-he wouldn't need in wolf form, but she had refused. She was tougher than that, and wouldn't let a little snow bother her, she had told him. Link had looked doubtful, but knew better than to argue with his hard-headed companion. And here she was, several hours later, sill awake, restless
Midna curled up as small as possible, a sad attempt to escape the cold. After awhile she gave up and sat up, rubbing her bare arms in desperation to keep warm. She caught sight of Link a few feet away, sleeping soundly on his side as a wolf, arms and legs sprawled out in front of him. She was immediately jealous of the several layers of thick, soft fun that coated his body. Irritation struck through her like lightning. That stupid wolf was just laying there, as warm and comfortable as could be, totally unaware of everything. Nothing weighed down on his shoulders. She had an entire kingdom to worry about! Midna could only wonder how Zant was treating her people...the thoughts made her want to punch something. Then she stopped.
Memories flooded through her...Link growling at her in the prison cell...Link tearing apart the flesh of a light-stealing bug...Link cornered in Goron mines as he aimed his bow at the twenty foot tall flaming Goron stumbling down on top of him....Link running through a stormy Hyrule, rushing her to Zelda...Zelda giving up her life for her...flashes of pain burned her insides.
Another gust of frozen wind whipped through the cave and interrupted her thoughts. She looked down at the head of the "stupid wolf" that had saved her life. The tip of his pink tongue hung outside the slackened jaw, yet the corners of his mouth were turned up, like he was smiling, so content and serene.
A different kind of warmth filled her. Smiling, she yawned and laid down on his warm, soft chest. She could feel the beating of his heart, the gentle rise and fall of his chest.
"Mmm?" He mumbled sleepily, mildly curious.
"It's cold." She whispered back, snuggling into the thick fur. He seemed to accept this, and drifted back to sleep almost immediately. Nodding off, a gentle smile spread across her face.
This was for warmth. Warmth only.
