Authoress' Note:

My cousin inadvertently inspired this one.

Anyway, this is the first chapter of a project I came up with: Ragnarok Online Background Music Writing Project (ROBGMWP). The rules are very simple: just write a RO-themed one-shot (or a series?) based on RO BGMs. It can be based on the title, or the mood, or the theme... Or whatever tickles your fancy. I will be following the numerical order of the BGMs. If you wish to attempt this project, feel free! But be sure to link your story to me! =3

Disclaimer: I do not own Ragnarok Online.

Chapter Summary: A lost soul returns to where everything begins.

BGM #1: Title

Rune Midgard...

Light as a feather.

The place she was born...
The place she had vowed to protect...
The place she had given up her life to protect...

She was floating, as light as a feather.

Yes, she had died.
She had fulfilled her duty as a Valkyrie.
She had sealed the Darkness under the Goddess' Guidance.

But why... Was she still conscious?

A flicker of shadow sent her mind's eye flying.

A sense of foreboding.

Somewhere far far away, intricate patterns weaved into a seal. It burned with malice.

The darkness wasn't fully stopped.
It threatened to return.
Howling painfully in its prison, banging fiercely against its cage...
She had a feeling that, somehow, it would return.

Withdrawing... Into the azure sky.

No, she could not rest.

The world unfurled itself beneath her like a tapestry.

She have to return.

Her soul flitted past the desert of Morroc, into the forest of Payon, across the sea with the ships of Alberta, zooming through Satellite City Izlude, flying across the grand city of Prontera, circling itself around Geffen tower.

She must go back!

Her soul burst into a shower of sparks...

.

.

.

The chirping of birds... The rustling of trees... The wind that tickled her face...

Amethyst eyes slowly opened, taking in a familiar-looking old building in front of her.

IT BEGINS HERE

These three words screamed in her mind, and she frowned.

She had a feeling that she knew this place. She had been here before... but she could not recall the name of this place.

On further study, she noticed a signboard... and smiled as her memory returned.

How could she have forgotten Novice Academy, the first step of every adventurer's journey?
