My first ever story! What does the word Starsky mean to Hutch? Thanks go to Tammy (dnjlwilson) for giving me a much-needed push to try writing something myself. Unfortunately I don't own the boys.
This had been a particularly long and boring stakeout, and fortunately for Hutch, Starsky was quiet. He had got bored hours earlier and was now peacefully snoring against Hutch's thigh with his feet up on the car dash. Hutch looked over at where Starsky had been drawing in the steam on the passenger window like the big kid that he was. Amongst the crude doodles of stars and smiley faces, the word 'Starsk' stood out. Hutch froze when he saw it, and memories came flooding back to him of other times he'd seen his friend's name written on glass.
Two times Starsky's name had been written in red. One time meant to frighten, the other to comfort.
When Starsky had been taken and tortured by Satanists, they'd left Starsky's name on the bathroom mirror in blood, and Hutch had been terrified that the blood belonged to his friend, and hoping with all his heart that it didn't.
When Hutch had been dying of the plague that infected the city, Starsky had left his name written on the window to Hutch's room in lipstick, 'Starsk', as a sign to his friend that he was still thinking of him, still with him, and still working to find a cure. Without being allowed inside the room anymore, it had been all Starsky could do to comfort Hutch.
The 'Starsk' on the car window was the sign that even after all they'd been through, his partner was still with him and very much alive.
So while Starsky meant everything to Hutch, Starsk meant that little bit more. Hutch absently brushed the unruly brown curls with his hand.
"What'cha doin'?" asked Starsky sleepily.
"Just glad you're here buddy."
And Starsky just smiled. They both knew that they meant the world to each other.
