Under the Starless Sky

DISCLAIMER: Sadly, I don't own Soul Eater or any of its characters ;_; proceed…

It was another starless night in the city. It wasn't abnormal for this city. He actually preferred the sky to be starless. He sat down by his grand piano and played a familiar tune. Fur Elise, but it sounded sadder than usual.

"Soul, Soul!"

"Ugh… WHAT MAKA?"

"Let's go look at the stars tonight!"

"NO… fine…"

He continued to play the piece. It didn't matter to him whether it sounded good or bad, well, not anymore. He usually didn't stop playing until he felt that he was satisfied, but today he couldn't help but feel that he wasn't satisfied no matter how much he played. How much time has passed? That didn't matter either.

"Why did you bring me here? Gosh Maka, you and your stupid shoujo manga…"

"NO! I don't read manga! Unlike some idiot I know, ehem, SOUL!"

"Sigh, so what's the purpose of spontaneously coming to look at the stars?"

"I don't know… I just wanted to…"

--------

"Soul, did you know? They say once someone dies they become a star."

"Psh, there you go with your nonsense again."

"No I'm serious! They say that once you die, you become a star so that you can watch over your loved ones that are still alive."

"Yeah, so your point is…"

"I don't know… maybe one day I'll be watching over you! Teehee."

"Haha, funny Maka! How do you know I won't be the one to die first?"

"IDIOT! Stop ruining to mood!!"

*distant laughter fading*

Soul stopped playing the piano. The piano just wasn't helping fill his loneliness tonight. He looked out the window to find a single star in the sky. 'Stupid Maka, making the worse possible entrance…' Before he could have thought of any other thoughts, he heard a child's cry in the background. He went up to his daughter's room to find her crying. 'Gosh, she cries way too much… like Maka… haha…' he thought to himself.

"Maya, hush. Didn't I tell not to cry when Mom's watching?"

To his surprise, his five month old daughter stopped crying, as if she actually understood him. Too bad he couldn't keep to his own words. Soul felt fresh tears stream down his face.

"Stupid Maka… these aren't tears… I'm not crying… now stop looking…" he whispered.

Soul wiped the tears from his face.

"Heh, I guess you did beat me to the stars eh? You better not be cheating on your husband just because I can't see what you're doing right now." Soul forced a smile on his face as he closed the curtains on the window and walked out of the door.
