A/N: Just a little Father's Day tribute to Carlisle (because he deserves it!)

I tapped my pencil lightly against the desk, as the clock behind me ticking ticked loudly in my ear. I jotted down a few more notes before shutting the heavy book on my desk;, a resounding thud echoed as it closed. I picked it up and placed it back on the bookshelf, my extensive collection staring back at me. I looked over at the clock—5:15 p.m. I sighed to myself as I wrung my hands together. I turned out my desk lamp and stacked my papers neatly. I stared out the window across the treetops.

I heard a small creaking noise and my eyes shifted towards the door. A small smile crept up on my face and I snuck towards the office door. I jumped out of the door and into the hallway in a crouch position and was rewarded by a warm set of giggles.

Renesmee smiled, clapping her little hands together in excitement. I opened my arms and she ran to me, throwing herself into my embrace. I scooped her up and tossed her in the air. Her face was positively glowing as she smiled and laughed. Eventually I stopped tossing her, and she looked up at me with her adoring eyes.

"Hello, sweetheart," I cooed softly.

She looked up at me and held her hand out. I nodded at her. She placed her hand on my cheek and I was immediately flooded with images.

Emmett, Jasper, Edward, and I building a playground.

Me pushing Nessie on a swing.

Nessie and I playing tag in the backyard.

Me reading a story to her.

Us snuggling together in a chair.

A smile crept across my face as I looked down at the little angel. "Thank you," I said softly to her.

She snuggled into my chest and I walked back into my study, settling in on the couch there.

"Would you like me to tell you a story?" I asked her.

She nodded, looking up at me with her wide eyes.

"Well, once upon a time there was a boy and a girl. The boy loved the girl very much and treated her like a princess. She was a stubborn girl who wanted to do everything her own way, but the boy loved her anyway. One day, the girl was walking home from school and a car came out of nowhere, almost about to hit herwhen a car came out of nowhere, nearly hitting her. But the boy was there and pushed the car, saving her life. From then on, the boy and the girl were inseparable, and even though they faced challenges, they fell in love and lived happily ever after."

Renesmee smiled up at me, placing her hand on my cheek and showing me the scene of her dad, Edward, rescuing her mom, Bella, from the same scenario. I nodded at her and she smiled, snuggling in closer to me.

I waited for a few moments until I felt her deep breathing—she had fallen asleep. I kissed the top of her little forehead and stood up, walking her down to the hall to Edward's old room, which Esme had turned into a room for Renesmee. I tucked her into the bed, pushing her hair off her forehead.

She muttered something I couldn't understand. "Shh," I said.

She rolled over in her sleep, sighing heavily.

"I love you, Papa."

My cold, un-beating heart warmed at her nickname for me. I smiled down at her. "I love you too, sweetie."

She looked up at me with her little brown eyes and smiled. "Happy Father's Day."

I smiled.

After all these years, when dates and times really meant so little to me, this little angel had made me feel human again on a very special day.
