I feel so small

Christmas came, he didn't throw a party this year, this year he gave bonuses instead. He had other things to worry about and she could not see him yet. He watched as she left for her mother's house on Christmas Eve.

He went to her apartment. He planned on leaving the gift on her tree, but he forgot, she never got one. He meant to get her one, damn.

He left "To the shrine." He told his driver.

They parked blocks away, like always, and he walked.

With quickness he made his move, leaving the gift on the wells lip, knowing very well she would go there.

Inside Kagome felt a tingle up her spine, and everything else faded away.

"Kagome, is everything alright?" Her mother spoke, pulling the turkey from the oven.

Kagome looked at her mom "Yes sorry, you were saying?"

She ignored the feeling, she was still sure she was losing her mind.

She loved her family and they knew, but they also knew a part of her was missing.

Later that night as she sat next to the fire, her mother brushed her hair. "Are you sure you're okay all by yourself?"

"Yes" She said sadly "It's just…" She didn't finish,

"Feel like you're missing something?"

"Yes, I think I may be losing my mind."

Her mother smiled "You were born into this world, this time Kagome. Kami doesn't make mistakes, but" She put the brush down "That doesn't mean you're losing your mind. Maybe something, or someone, was supposed to come back with you? Who knows, maybe one day they will?"

"He's with Kikyo."

"Who said anything about Inuyasha?" Her mother stood "You are heartbroken for your friends Kagome, but even I know that if you had stayed behind you would not have felt like this."

Kagome looked at her mother "Yes I would! I love you guys!"

Her mother smiled "I know you do dear, but even a mother must send her children away one day. What you're feeling is love lost, your soul is not whole."

"Yeah, Kikyo has the other half."

"That's not what I meant young lady, plus didn't that all work out?"

Her mother was right.

"Mom that doesn't make any sense. You're saying I left something, er someone in the past?"

"Perhaps."

Kagome sighed "No one could come through the well but Inuyasha."

"Who said anything about through it?" Her mother stood.

Kagome gave her a questioning look.

"Demons live for a long time, don't they?"

"Mom there are no demons here."

"Try telling that to your grandfather." Her mother giggled and it made Kagome really smile.

"Well, I am off to bed. Don't stay up too late or Santa won't come."

Kagome shook her head, but took her mother's advice and soon made her way to her room.

She sat in the darkness, then it started to snow. She looked out the window as it fell, and looked at the well house. That's when she noticed the door was slightly open and she knew very well that it was closed. She quickly and quietly rushed down and out of the house and through the snow. She pushed the door wider and ran down the steps. There, on the lip of the well, was a crystal bird.

She walked slowly up to it, shivering, not from the cold.

Her hand reached out and grabbed the bird and she looked at it, confused.

"Who?" She felt no one,

She looked down the well, nothing.

She turned the pretty bird every which way, it meant something. What, she didn't know.

"Kagome, are you down here?"

Kagome walked up the steps to her grandfather "Grandpa, did you leave this here?"

"What? No, damn demons; needs more stickers."

She shook her head "I don't understand, is there something special about this bird?"

He looked at it, "Nothing what so ever, it's a flightless bird."

Her breath hitched and Kagome looked around. It was a sign, like the silk, she wasn't going crazy.

Or was she?

She walked to the tree and looked up. Who could have sent her this and how? In a world so big and wide, she would know if there were demons. No, she was alone in this world, in this time.

She held the bird close to her heart, like it, she felt so small.
