Roses

Just so you know, I wrote the Fan fiction staff to add the character section here.

This is set somewhere between Sly 2 and Sly 3.

Carmelita had just gotten home from her job at Interpol.

And she was exhausted.

To begin with, someone tried to steal the police cars from the parking lot, and she quickly caught the two teenage culprits.

Then, the jewelry store across the street got robbed two seconds after the teenagers were behind bars, and she ran off to catch them.

Who the heck robs a store across from a police station? I mean, really!

That happened before the work day had officially started.

After that, she spent the rest of the day camped outside the library with a bomb squad, trying to get the criminal to not blow himself up, and the poor kids inside the library for "Reading Day".

Needless to say, that was very nerve-racking.

After that, Carmelita went to bail out a poor newbie cop that spilled coffee on the Komodo Dragon police chief, visiting from somewhere in the east.

Finally, she got home, and she just wanted to flip on some music and read a little. Easy, right?

Unfortunately…

Walking inside her reasonably well kept apartment, Carmelita flopped down and leaned back on her couch, flipping through the songs on her music player, when she saw it.

On the table rested a bright red rose.

She picked it up, puzzled, turning around the thornless rose, studying its soft petals and the gentle, curving leaves around the edge.

"What the…" She turned her head to the side, looking around.

Nothing.

She shrugged, placing the flower back on the table.

Then:

Someone could be in my house.

She did a thorough check of her home, checked her valuables, and still nothing.

It was like someone had come in just to give her a flower.

Secret admirer? Maybe.

Carmelita was too tired to care. She went to her kitchen, only to get greeted by another rose, this one white.

She picked it up, looking around. Resting in a vase was a pitcher of multicolored roses. She tugged off a slip of paper, the familiar raccoon shaped head that signified Sly, and flipped it open.

Saw you had a hard day today. Does this help?

Sly

Carmelita smiled despite herself, twirling the rose in her fingers.

"Yes, Cooper. It does."

"Great to hear that." His warm, charismatic voice said teasingly behind her. She whirled around, seeing Sly leaning against her doorway.

"Cooper!" She snatched her pistol, and the raccoon bounded down the hallway. Deciding it wouldn't be smart to shoot in her house, she actually hurled the vase at him.

CRASH!

Sly leaped out of the way just in time, waving cheerily before jumping out the open window. She rushed to the window, watching his shadowy form climb a pipe expertly and vanish into the coming night.

She cleaned the mess up, then picked up the two intact flowers, one white, one red, and placed them back on the table.

First Sly fiction, though I've loved this game for years.
