Sakura knows she will never be more than mediocre.

She will never be the strongest, the fastest or the smartest.

She will never stand apart from the rest; stick out, become more. She knows that that was never a possibility for her.

The 'weakest link of Team 7' she was known as. "She will never go as far as those boys," They'd whisper as she passed, "Of course, who could ever compete with an Uchiha and the son of-"

Haruno Sakura will never be great.

Dreams hung upon hooks, nailed into the wall of the darkest corner of the closet of skeletal secrets along with the- one thing she could never forget -picture of days when she was happy.

She will never tell a soul of her aspirations. She will never say that in a land of onceuponatimes and possibilities, those very boys she had been compared to had made her believe. They had been her heroes and as she gazed at them upon the pedestals she'd placed them on, she truly and deeply believed that she could be more.

For them.

But the older she grew, the more time seemed to trickle through the proverbial hourglass, the heavier and more burdening these dreams became.

And then He left.

And so did the others.

And left alone Sakura was crushed under the weight of her shattered dreams of something beyond mediocrity, something exceptional.

She stopped hoping.

Yet something in her pushed. Screamed to be freed from where she'd chained it in the very blackest corner of that closet in her mind.

Potential.

She had forgotten that it was something she had ever possessed.

'Tsunade-sama, I ask to be taken under your tutelage once again.' One day- the day the rest abandoned her for The Other –she had not gone back to her master. She asks for a second chance.

'Take a seat Sakura,' And the everysokind mistress gives it to her.

And so the softness of her hands wears away as they chafe red and blister with wear. The rawness never leaves even as she dons gloves of black leather. She is beating against both the rock and hard place, fightingfightingfighting, never stopping for pause. She is wearing on the mediocrity that so tarnishes her in the eyes of- everyonewhoevermattered –others.

Sakura will never be amazing. She will never be that person who surpasses all expectations, leaps over challenges, and bounds past those that say that ...

She is the person that the Great Ones, the Heroes, go to. The one who offers herself and everything that she has.

The Backup.

She is the one who offers what little strength she possesses to the ones in her life that she feels needs it more.

She is the one who offers her shoulder, her hand and her heart.

She is the glue that keeps those important people from shattering to pieces and flying apart from the inside out.

She will never know that that is what makes her their Hero.

Because they will never tell her.

So she remains the second rate, second place mediocrity she's always been.

But that will never stop her from trying to be more.

She will continue to grow, and grow.

And grow.
