Stolen
a/n: Written circa May 2009.
This was done for a meme, with the following instructions:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
As such, this is why it is so short, since I gave myself four minutes approximately to write this and it hasn't been edited since; but it's short and sweet and I really do like it as a drabble. It was inspired to the song 'Stolen' by Dashboard Confessional.
I watch you spin around in your highest heels
You are the best one, of the best ones
... You have stolen my heart
When he was with Rose, it was as if she had taken his heart, his fragile heart, and patched it up again. Patched it up from its broken little pieces – and made him whole. There was nothing more important than her safety or well being. He'd just spent hours with her, watching sunsets, going to random places she'd request, and the seasons and days would tick by.
And then she went away. Across the void, to another world. And it wouldn't take him being a time lord to know there was something missing.
Even if he screamed aloud that it was too early for them to be apart, that they had so little time – he knew time well enough to know it wasn't going to listen to him.
A fixed heart could easily be stolen – and unintentionally, it felt like his heart was also gone too when she disappeared. Like the patched heart had been stolen away from him, and he would never be whole again.
Never. There would always be a part of him missing, asleep, or awake. Always a part of him that didn't quite fit with the other pieces. A part of him that would remind him of Rose despite everything that he went through. Always something missing.
But he wasn't quite sure of how much it had an effect on him, until that day - that day when he saw her again, at the bottom of the street. He couldn't do anything more than look in surprise – and feel as though his heart came back to him in that smile.
For a long time, it was the first time he felt whole, truly and utterly whole – and it didn't matter if his heart had been stolen anymore.
Because it was with Rose, and she was there in front of him.
