"I love you."

Quinn is the luckiest; she can say it to his face.

She loves the way he smiles every time she says it. He says it back.

And she knows it's true.

No matter what they have to go through, no matter who gets in the way.

She loves him.

And he loves her.

"I love you."

Rachel says it to him across the hallway at school, softly, so softly, so he doesn't hear.

No, she isn't a coward. But she sees how he loves Quinn.

How he tells her he loves her, and smiles, and laughs, and puts his arm around her shoulder-

And sometimes it's almost too much to bear.

She loves him.

But he doesn't love her.

"I love you."

Kurt says it to a mental image, late at night, when no one's around to see him and criticize him.

When he can cry his eyes out in the darkness, and not worry about his hair, and not have to see him look at Quinn with that look in his eyes that says he truly loves her.

When he doesn't have to see how he even looks at Rachel, sometimes, with that adorable look in his eyes that says he has no idea how much he's loved.

And he knows there's no hope for him.

He thinks how Rachel was right- he'll always be last on Finn's list- because he's male.

Because he's not normal.

Because he's himself.

But he still loves him.

And he knows that the feeling will never be mutual.

:::

Kind of depressing, I know.
