Takes place when they are first staying with Charlie and starting to fall for each other

We're starting to feel We stayed together out of fear Of dying alone

Hatter looked over at Alice as he noticed her looking at him. She was glowing in the firelight. He may even go as far to say she looked beautiful. Hatter was falling for this just Alice.

"No, I.. I couldn't be. I… we're only together because she has this fear for her… boyfriend. And I have this thing about dying." Hatter thought to himself, turning away from Alice and closing his eyes.

I've been slipping through the years My old clothes don't fit like they once did So they hang like ghosts Of the people I've been

Alice mimicked Hatter's actions and pulled the purple velvet jacket tighter around her. Her blue dress wasn't doing it's trick like it once had. She was cold now and not fitting quite well. It almost seemed ghostly in her mind now. It was just a piece of fabric tethering her to what she saw as reality.

"I can't be falling in love." Alice thought to herself. "My heart couldn't take it. First daddy and now Jack. Damn… I feel like a fool."

As Hatter pretended to sleep, his mind kept drifting to Alice. No one had ever looked at him the way she did. He had to face the truth on that and much more. He had to face the truth that Alice, for him, was something worth holding on to.

These times I think of leaving But it's something I'll never do

Hatter thought of leaving Alice. He had made his excuses but it was to late and he knew it.

"I'll never do it." He whispered to himself.

Across the fire, Alice considered taking her leave of this place. She though of taking things into her own hands and taking action.

The sun rose in the east and Alice rose with it. She left the sight and the purple jacket and Hatter.

Hatter heard the slight rustling of leaves and elevated himself to see what it was. He noticed the purple coat on the ladder closest to Charlie.

"Damn." He said, pounding a fist on his thigh. Alice, you can do better than me but… I can't do better than you." Hatter had finally came to his point.

Hatter was in love with Alice and nothing, not even this Jack could change that.
