Disclamer: I do not own Gakuen alice or any of its characters.
Author Note: All my stuff seemed to be bordering on sad, so I wanted to write something happy. This was something I started near Christams, but could not decide on the ending. Well anyways, I hope you guys like it. Its really short and a bit late for new year's but I'm sure I''ll be forgiven.

He was driving home.
God today was a crappy day. Seriously why do I have to deal with all these stupid idiots who have such terrible timing.
He was especially mad that he had had to come to work on the 31st of December. In spite of his bad mood, he smiled slightly when he saw that it had started snowing. It gave everything a serenity that made him feel more at peace and not grumble at the unfairness of it all.
She was just leaving work. Just as she and three colleagues stepped outside the building, it started snowing. They whined, complained and then hurried off. She stood there, looking at the sky. Everywhere was white, and the falling snow made her feel like she was in a snow globe. The beauty of it made her face light up. It's good to be here. Her smile probably warmed quite a few people who were passing by.
He saw the cafe out of the corner of his eye, just as the traffic light turned green. He shrugged to himself. Might as well go in, not like there is anyone waiting at home. Soon he had parked the car, and was entering the cozy looking place.
She headed to the nearby cafe. Not much point in going home early when she could be out and meeting new people. She loved this place, it was nice and friendly here, it always made her feel welcome.
He chose the only empty table left near the big window up front so he could watch the snow. It looked even more beautiful now.
"Excuse me?" said a feminine voice.
He looked up to see the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen.
"Yes?"
"Is anyone joining you?" she asked.
"No." He wondered if she would be intimidated by the monosyllable answers.
"Then can I join you, please? I love watching the snow, and this is the only place left in here from where i can see it." she asked, her eyes wide with honest enthusiasm.
"Sure." He could not help but give her a small smile.
"Thanks." she gave him a huge smile and sat down opposite him.
Soon they were talking, and somehow time seemed to fly. They sat together in that cafe, no longer watching the snow, but much more interested in the person sitting across from them.
"Excuse me, I am sorry to be interrupting, but it will be closing time soon."
They looked surprised at the waitress, and then chuckled.
"Sure, we'll be out soon." Natsume said.
Mikan nodded in agreement.
As they put on their winter gear, he asked "What will you be doing tonight?"
"Nothing, I guess. You?"
"Nothing much." He grinned, "Wanna do nothing together?"
She laughed. "I guess. Where to?"
"Lets go find a 24 hour cafe." He said with a smile.
Soon they were seated in another place. After a while Mikan looked out, and her eyes widened. "Look!!!"
Natsume looked out, and he had to admit that it was a beautiful sight.
The Sun was rising above the horizon, and all the white snow was colored in hues of pink, purple and gold, just like the sky.
"A beautiful start for the new year." She said softly.
"Definitely." He was not looking at the sky but at her.

Mikan smiled as she sat down across from Natsume in the cafe where they had first met. Her smile turned even brighter when he gave her a single white stemmed rose.
"Happy 25th anniversary!" He said smiling.
Mikan moved forward and kissed him gently on the lips. Twenty five years ago, in this very place, everything had changed, and she could not be more happy about it.
