The Jitters
Clyde groaned as he stumbled out of bed. His head was throbbing, and his mouth felt fuzzy. He had been up till three that morning, playing video games and drinking with Craig and Token. He slowly made his way downstairs, hugging Liane when he bumped into her. "Hey lady." He yawned tiredly, left eye twitching.
"Breakfast is on the table poopsikins." She kissed his cheek, ruffling his hair. "You better hurry up, you and Eric have to leave in half an hour if you want to make it to your exam." She scolded softly, nudging him towards the kitchen.
He piled his plate with breakfast foods, before giving up. He was too tired to eat. Clyde dropped his head onto the table, cringing when a fork poked into his cheek. Well, at least it missed my eye he mumbled internally, with a sulky inner voice.
"Fuck's the matter with you?" Eric grumbled gruffly as he gobbled down his own breakfast. He sat at the other end of the table. For some strange reason, he and Clyde had the heads of the table. Liane sat in the middle, or ate after they were all done and she had cleaned their mess.
"I didn't fucking study." Clyde groaned into the tablecloth, "I was playing with Craig and Token."
"Fag." Eric chortled, slurping down some more cereal. They both pigged out during breakfast, usually. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
"Shut up. It's not funny." Clyde raised his head, eyes teary. "I'm going to fail the exam. I can't afford to fail anymore. My scholarship can only take me so far." He whispered.
Clyde had gotten into Park County College riding on a football scholarship. The conditions were he had to maintain a passing average. Failing anymore exams would drop his GPA way too low. He'd lose the scholarship, and his parents would lose thousands of dollars. They just couldn't afford it.
"Look, you're not gonna fail." Eric mumbled, pushing his cereal around with his spoon.
"I am! I didn't study!"
Eric glanced at the clock, then stood. "C'mon we gotta get you to class." He himself hadn't applied to college yet – he was taking a year or two off to, ah, 'make money'.
Clyde stood dejectedly, slumping against his twin for a minute, before heading out to the jeep.
They arrived at the school fifteen minutes early. Eric turns off the ignition, twisting to stare at his brother. "You're gonna fail –"
"I know."
"Shut the fuck up and let me finish." Eric snapped, punching his twin in the chest. The other boy made a choked noise, shooting him a dark glare. "You didn't study, so what? You've been learning this shit for the past few weeks. You're going to fail if you keep up that piss poor attitude you asshole."
Clyde blinked a few times, mulling over the shocking logic that his twin had just displayed for him. "Yeah...You're right." He opened the door, climbing out of the jeep. "Thanks Eric."
"Whatever. So what are you going to do?"
"Go and fail the exam" Clyde said cheerfully, slamming the door. He trotted off to class, smiling. The fuck does my bro know?
