It wasn't the first time Professor Kudzu had been awakened by being poked with a leek, and it probably wouldn't be the last.

Sitting up, he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "Morning, Wade." The Farfetch'd quacked at him in a tone of mild reproach before hopping off the bed and waddling out of the room. Putting on his slippers, Kudzu followed. Wade had been his very first Pokémon, and had been his faithful companion for almost three decades now. Kudzu liked to sleep in, while Wade tended to rise early, so the professor had taught him to wake him up if he was sleeping too late. (However, he had also taught him that this did not apply to weekends.)

The anatine Pokémon was in his office, making himself comfortable at his usual spot on his desk. Kudzu sat down at his computer, deactivating the screen saver. Flying toasters were replaced by his e-mail.

He'd received several e-mails from Professors Kukui and Burnet of Alola, all marked URGENT. His heart skipped a beat. The last time he'd received urgent e-mails from a fellow Pokémon Professor, it had been from Sycamore of Kalos, and the news they'd contained had caused large revisions to much of his book.

It took several hours and multiple read-throughs before he'd digested the news from Alola. This was even bigger than before. This was paradigm-shifting.

Ultra Space. Fallers. Ultra Beasts.

This changed everything.

Everything.

He glanced over at Wade, who gave him a concerned-sounding honk. Kudzu reached over and gave him a pet.

"Old friend, I think we're going to have to go all the way back to square one…"

"Quack?"

When X and Y came out, I rolled with it and portrayed Kudzu as editing his manuscript. But then Sun, Moon, and their Ultra counterparts came out. And the information those games revealed was far too significant for mere revisions. Plus I think I could simply do a better job writing many of the early chapters.

So Kudzu is going to end his first draft here and start from scratch.

And so am I.

This is the end of the current version of A Beginner's Guide To Pokémon. I'll begin the second iteration as a new story. But before I do, I'd like some feedback, from you, my readers:

Is there anything you'd like me to change in the new version? Or anything you'd particularly like me to keep?

And should I keep the bits focusing on Kudzu himself restricted to things like these "changes brought on by new games," or would there be any interest in more frequent scenes before, after, or between chapters?

I look forward to your feedback, and thank you so much for your patience with the glacial rate I update. (Accursed adulting.)

Until next time, may all your captures be critical and all your IVs be perfect.
