"Go!" I ran off the diving board and did a canon ball into the 10 foot deep pool. I swam half way to the bottom, staying there for 10 or 15 seconds. People started growing leery of me being under longer than usual. Most of them didn't know how long I could hold my breath.
Finally, I head a loud splash in the water. Within just a few seconds, I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, pulling me to the side of the pool and out of the water.
"Kyle! Kyle! Are you okay buddy?" I didn't move or breathe. He leaned down and forced his breath into my mouth to get me going again. His soft lips pressed against mine. It was the only reason I faked drowning in the first place. I coughed once or twice before slightly opening my eyes, to stare up at the blonde. My vision was a little blurry, only from the water, but I could make out his face anywhere.
I kept my mouth shut, as if I were still a little bit dizzy.
"Dude what happened to you?"
"I don't know…" I stated, "I just like, blacked out."
"Maybe you hit the water too hard." Kenny replied, brushing my wet hair from my face.
"Maybe." I said. I was so caught up in words after that kiss.. Well, it wasn't really a kiss, but it was pretty damn close. "Thank you."
"It's no problem," he said smiling, "I'm the lifeguard, it's my job." Standing up from the side of the pool, he put out a hand for me to take. I excepted the gesture, and he helped me up. He called out, "Craig, my shift's over. I'm gonna hang out with Kyle for a few minutes."
Craig made his way up the lifeguard stand, sitting at the top and blowing the whistle quietly to himself.
"Thanks again, dude. I don't know what happened to me back there." Kenny shook his head as we walked around the pool club filled with screaming kids and water splashing everywhere.
"Oh save it, Kyle." He stated clearly, looking at me.
"Save what?"
"Save that crap for someone who actually believes you."
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying that I didn't fall for that whole fake drowning thing back there. I know real drowning when I see it, and that wasn't it."
"Hm, then why'd you give me mouth to mouth?"
"Because it was a good opportunity for me to kiss you, duh."
I looked at him, dumbfounded. Before I could speak, he did.
"Why'd you fake drown in the first place? Like all the girls you must have wanted some action, huh?" I looked down at the ground/
"Shutup..." I reply slowly.
"You like me don't you?" I really wasn't good at hiding things.
"A little." My face was growing redder. It wasn't just a little.
Kenny's grin grew larger. "I knew it."
"I make it obvious."
"Well come on, how could you resist?" It was true, Kenny was beautiful. His blonde hair brought out his face and his light blue eyes just made him something you wanted to stare at all day.
"I couldn't." I kinda felt weird talking about this with him. We'd wandered all the way over to a bench behind one of the pools.
"If you wanted a kiss, all you had to do was ask." Kenny took both of my hands and brought his faced close to mine. He kissed me passionately on the lips. I leaned in kissing back.
"McCormick! Get back to work!" Screamed on of the other lifeguards who spotted us.
"Kenny--." I began.
"Shh, meet me at my house at the end of the day." I nodded as Kenny walked back dreamily to his pool he worked out.
That turned out so much better than I thought it would.
