Kinda OOC. Sorry.

I don't own El Tigre.

"I knew, when I married Rodolfo, that he did this all the time. Still, I had to leave. I couldn't stand watching him endanger himself all the time. And now Manny's doing it too."

Frida knows exactly what Manny's mom is talking about. No matter how she acts, no matter what she says, watching him fight, watching him get hurt terrifies her.

Whenever she thinks his wounds are serious, she's scared, scared, scared.

And once she's sure he's okay, she goes home and cries, cries, cries.

(Although she'd never admit it)

She watches as Sartana smashes Manny into a building, and his Dad and Grandpapi are there fighting Sartana too, and she knows with them he's going to be fine, fine, fine.

(But she's still worried)

And later she watches him fight with all the other villains, and she wishes she lived somewhere else than Miracle City, and that she'd never met Manny Rivera so she wouldn't have to wait, everyday, afraid that one of the villains would get in a lucky shot, and then Manny would be gone, gone, gone.

(But then she regrets it, because even if she had a friend who was safe, it wouldn't be her best friend, and she doesn't want that)

Of course, it's her job to make sure Manny's mom doesn't freak out of do something stupid like insist Manny moves away, even if that would mean he was safe, safe, safe.

(Because if he was gone, Frida doesn't know what she would do.)

"I know that they have to do this to protect the city," Good lord, was that woman still going on about their safety? "Which was part of the reason I had to leave, before." Say what now? "I couldn't keep them from heroics, and trying to was just plain selfish."

And Frida makes an excuse and starts running away, because she knows that she is selfish, selfish, selfish.

(Although she knows that it's hard to tell, because she knows that he wouldn't listen to her if she asked him to stop, so she doesn't bother)

Frida finally lets her dad send her off to boarding school, and she doesn't tell anyone, she just sticks a letter in the mail for Manny to get in a day or two. She left because she knew if she stayed she would watch Manny hurt himself over and over, and if that kept happening, she'd eventually break, break, break.

(And when she breaks, it isn't quite and soft, it's loud and messy, and she knows Manny can't deal with putting her back together right now)

---

Manny got her letter. And it explained about how she knew he needed to protect the city, and she needed to not be scared that one day he wouldn't be fine, or worried that one day he would be gone, she just needs him to promise he'll be safe, and she's sorry for being so selfish. And when Manny Rivera finished reading the letter from his best friend, the girl he'd always been afraid to say he loved, Manny broke.
