The 100 Years War (Redone Version) - Prelude

The last of the mornings snowflakes had fallen, and the sun began to show it's face for the first time that afternoon. It glistened against the waterways within the city, and shined with golden ripples as a boat passed through. The boat's occupants were enjoying the beautiful patterns on the water. Yue ungloved her hand and traced over the rippled water.

"Isn't it pretty?" she asked her companion, Sokka, who was enjoying a different view.

"I could think of some prettier things," he replied, trying to sound aloof, but failed as a slight pink flush appeared on his cheeks.

"Like what?" Yue's cheeks turned rosey, knowing what he meant by his statement. The corner of his lips turned to form a smile, his face getting pinker.

"You, of course!" His small grin became a wide, happy smile; Yue's turned to a frown.

"Sokka, you know I'm engaged," an air of sadness surrounded her as she spoke. She did not want to be engaged, but it was a choice her father had made. She wouldn't dare speak against it. For her, it would betray her father and her people. Even though she clearly loved the man that was with her in the boat, she knew that it just couldn't be toyed with.

"I know, I know! We're just friends! But friends can call each other pretty. There's no harm in that!" Yue regained her smile as he continued, "Anyways, I'm hungry! Any clue when I can get something to eat?"

"We'll be holding another feast in the palace tonight; but before we go back, I want to show you someplace special."

"Where is that?" Sokka replied, confused as to where they would be going.

"it's the most sacred place in all of the North Pole. It's very beautiful and peaceful. I think you'll like it!" She smiled, as the look on Sokka's face became more confused.

The boat reached toward a small dock, and the couple got off.

"So where is this 'special place'?" Sokka turned to his companion. She just smiled and said, "Follow me."

Yue led him to a small garden surrounded with waterfalls, trees, flowers, and other small plants. There was a small koi pond in the center.

"Wow! It's so warm in here!" Sokka pulled off his overcoat.

"This is the Spirit Oasis. It is the most spiritual place in the Northern Watertribe," she sat down in front of the koi pond.

"It's beautiful," Sokka joined her by the pond. There were two small fish circling each other in an odd fashion. One was black with a small white diamond pattern between its eyes, while the other one was opposite; white with a black diamond.

"Legend says that the koi represent the moon and the ocean, and the balance they keep. Some even say they are the embodiment of the moon and ocean spirits themselves," Yue stared intently and the circling koi. Sokka just nodded. He didn't care about spirits, magic, or old legends. The only thing he believed was what he could see with his own eyes and touch with his own hands.

"You know what?" She asked.

"Hm?"

"This reminds me of a story my father told me once. It happened right after the war had started. It was about my great great grandmother's brother, and the one he loved," Her face had turned sad again, "It was a sad, but wonderful story. Would you like to hear it?"

"Sure, but let's make it quick. I'm starving!" He said, flopping on his back and watching the clouds. Yue giggled. He didn't want to hear the story, but he also want to hurt Yue's feelings. He would rather deal with the first one.

"Well, it starts of like this. . . "
