Hey guys! I know it's been FOREVER but I felt inspired to write this on my day off. Please enjoy and let me know what you think! I love hearing from you!
"Have you heard from the boy Lucius?"
"Yes my lord" Lucius responded from behind his white mask.
The dining hall in the Malfoy mansion was dimly lit. Death Eaters lined the sides of the table, no one speaking unless spoken to.
"Good." Voldemort spoke, lightly scratching his nails against the grain of the table. "I want to know everything about this Yugi Motou."
"Is the King of Games playing chess against the King of Games?" Bakura plopped down on the bench next t Yugi, across from Yami. "This I have to see!"
"Keep it down Bakura." Yami stated, pondering his next move. He moved his knight to block Yugi's approach, sacrificing a pawn. "You're getting better at this Yugi."
"What can I say; I've learned from the best." Yugi stated with his trademark grin, snatching Yami's pawn off the board and replacing it with his own pawn.
It was the beginning of the Christmas holidays; everyone was heading back to their families until the start of the new semester.
"Have the visions stopped Yugi?"Ryou asked cautiously.
Yugi nodded quickly, keeping his focus on how he was going to get out of the chess trap Yami had set up.
"There has been none," Yami stated, smiling a bit as his Aibou sat deep in thought, trying to predict the next move. "It's been oddly quiet. We tried to set up a false trail for the Malfoy kid but we haven't noticed anything strange since then."
"That can't be good with our track record." Bakura stated.
"No, we aren't sure what is going on, but we will be prepared if and when something happens." Yami said, moving his queen in front of Yugi's king. "Check mate Aibou."
"Darn it." Yugi muttered under his breath, earning a smirk from Yami. "Anyways, Ryou have you seen Marik and Ishizu?"
"Not recently. We spoke with them yesterday-" Ryou started, quickly being interrupted by Bakura.
"Yeah and Ishizu was spewing her usual philosophical bull-"
"BAKURA" Ryou yelled, startling the few students seated at the other end of the hall. "Uh.. Sorry just an inside joke!" He awkwardly laughed then whispered. "The last we saw of them they were in the tower and Ishizu was talking about the visions she saw through the Millennium necklace. "
"Were any of them important?" Yugi asked, cleaning up the chess game pieces.
"Well not exactly. Ishizu wasn't sure what they meant, she just said that she saw something that didn't make much sense. She didn't really say what so I'm assuming it wasn't that important."
"I see. Oh Ra I forgot! I was going to talk to Hermione about something today!" Yugi scrambled up the rest of the pieces and packed them away into a box. "Here Ryou drop this off in my room!"
"HEY WE AREN'T YOUR MAIDS YOU DAMN- " Bakura started, after the box was shoved into Ryou's hands.
"Sorry we've got to go!" Yugi said whilst running out the door of the Great Hall.
Yami sighed and with a light chuckle vanished into the shadows.
Hermione was seated outside the castle on a stone bench with a bag she had packed for the Christmas Holiday. The train was set to leave in an hour, taking students back to Kings Cross to visit their families for the Holidays.
Yugi ran through the doors and spotted her. "Hermione!" He rushed over to the bench to where she was sitting and started rummaging through his bag. "I'm so glad I caught you before you left."
"Oh right I nearly forgot, you wanted me to drop something off at Ollivanders right?" She asked, putting down the book she was reading.
"Yeah I need you to give him this letter, I would send it myself but I would refer it not falling into the wrong hands." He said, pulling a thick, sealed envelope from his bag and handing it to her.
"Not a problem Professor. I started that holiday assignment you gave us. I was wondering if I should look into some muggle card shops before I really get into it."
"Yugi sat down on the bench and smiled. 'It's really up to you, there is a section in the textbook I assigned that has a lot of common information, but if you really want to impress me then checking in with a shop is an excellent idea. I would be most intrigued if you were able to dig up some history on a rarer monster. Actually if you really are interested for the sake of learning I can put you in contact with a friend of mine." Yugi stated.
"Really?" Hermione asked.
"Definitely! Of course it kind of puts the other students at a disadvantage but I trust that you'll do most of it on your own. Here let me write his number down." Yugi grabbed a pen and ripped a piece of paper out of his notepad. "Here. That's my grandpa's shop number. He's worked in the field of Egyptian history for ages. If you do contact him let him know I'm doing well and will visit soon."
"Thank Yugi! I'll be sure to let him know. You know Harry and Ron are staying for the break right? You'll probably see them around. I have to go to the platform now. The train should be arriving soon. Thank you for the help and I'll make sure Ollivander gets your letter!" Hermione said, gathering her bags and waving to Yugi as she headed down to the Hogwarts platform.
Yami materialised next to Yugi as they walked back into the castle. "So do you think Ollivander will have the answer you seek?" He asked, enjoying his walk through the quiet halls of the castle.
"Well he's the one who gave the wands to us right? He's got to know something about them. Maybe he will know who made them; he might even know why I'm having so much trouble with the spells." Yugi replied.
The break continued without incident. The students had returned from their homes and the first day of classes had begun.
Yugi was seated on his desk waiting for the students to arrive to his class. "I know it sounds strange Yami but I just have a bad feeling about today."
Yami frowned, the shadows shifted in response to his concern. "I'm sure that everything will be fine Yugi."
"I sure hope so." Yugi muttered, mindlessly kicked the edge of the desk. Yami felt the shadows shift again, this time in response to Yugi's anxious behaviour. Yami frowned and disappeared, travelling the halls of the puzzle.
Yugi watched as a few students trickled into the classroom. The shadows licked at his arms impatiently, making him shiver as more and more students trickled in, including Harry, Ron, and Hermione. No one else could see the shadows, and Yugi could feel Yami roaming the halls of the puzzle. He whispered quietly, trying to soothe the shadows. "Please, stop this." He pleaded, feeling another shiver as the rest of the Slytherin students walked into the room, Malfoy included.
Yugi tried to shake off the weird feeling in the pit of his stomach and hopped off the desk to greet the students. "Alright class," Yugi said smiling. "I do hope that you all had an enjoyable holiday. I am anxious to read your papers on the Egyptian monster you chose to study over the break." Yugi glanced to his side as the shadows edged closer, anxiously trying to protect their master. "If you will all just drop those off on my desk after class it would be greatly appreciated."
Yugi tugged at the collar of his shirt, shivering as the shadows draped over his arm. /Yami./ he thought to himself, trying to get Yami's attention. "So today I will be explaining the concept of protectors to you. Can anyone tell me what I mean by this?" /Yami seriously can you answer me this is important./
/Yes Aibou?/
/Yami the shadows../
/They are acting restless aren't they. I have never seen them act this way./ Yami materialised next to Yugi and placed his hand on the shadow tendril that had wrapped itself around Yugi's arm. /It's almost acting protective./
Yugi forced a smile and continued talking to the students and Yami inspected the shadows around them. "Is anyone here familiar with the muggle tales of guardian angels?" He asked, nodding to Hermione as she raised her hand.
"That would be the idea that someone or something is watching over you as you live your life right?" She asked, placing her hand back down on her desk.
"That's correct. " Yugi said, holding back a shiver as the shadows moved closer. "In every society there is the same collective idea that there is an entity that protects you. I am unsure as to what this is considered to be in your typical magical studies, but I am familiar with the Egyptian guardians, which is what we have based most of the semester studying. In Egypt, when the duel monsters were used by the powerful sorcerers of the day, it was believed that everyone had a monster connected to their spirit." Yugi shifted his glance to Yami as another tendril of the shadows wrapped itself gently around Yugi's leg. "These spirits were delicate and only exposed themselves during times of great danger. Meaning that they were not seen often. It is said that only the most powerful of people were able to see and communicate with the spirits of the monsters, and in turn could receive advice from the spirits as well."
The lights in the room dimmed, the candles began to flicker. Students looked around concerned, while Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle quietly snuck out of the room.
Yugi felt the shadows grow angry. Protectively, the gripped onto his arm. /Yami what is happening…/
/I'm not sure Aibou. They won't listen to me./ Yami said, concern showing on his face.
The lights flickered until a strong gust of wind blew them all out, leaving the entire classroom in darkness. "Students stay where you are, please don't panic." Yugi shivered, desperately trying to come up with something. He felt the shadows on his arms, and then he felt light headed. Without thinking he whispered "lumos" and pockets of the shadows lit up, lighting the room in an eerie green glow.
/Aibou… How did you do that?/ Yami put his hands behind Yugi as he swayed a bit.
The students gasped as the pockets of light floated around the room. "Professor what's happening- " Neville started before loud cracks cut him off.
Yugi stared, his eyes glazed over as the floor between the students and the board began to crack.
/AIBOU ANSWER ME!/ Yami shouted trying to shake Yugi. The students were panicking. They all backed up to the farthest corner of the room as green as a dark green smoke seeped from the cracks in the floor. The smoke slowly formed into a mark, and the students gasped, some rushing to the door that was now magically locked shut.
The smoke rose to the center of the room and Harry reached for his scar as he saw what had formed. It was the dark mark; Voldemort's mark. The students started screaming as a voice spoke through the smoke. It was faint but everyone heard what it said.
As it spoke Yugi waved his hand and the pocket of light began to glow, quickly dispersing the dark magic from the room. The last thing Yugi heard before he collapsed to the ground was Voldemort's voice whispering "Bring me Mutou."
