I don't own Percy Jackson! That goes to Rick Riordan.
Nico sighed as he slunk back into the shadows.
Percy and Annabeth had just gotten back from their date, and Percy gave her a kiss goodnight before he left.
It's not like Nico was spying on them, he just happened to be in the neighborhood(or more likely he was watching and praying that tonight would be the night Percy finally dumped Annabeth and realized his true feelings for Nico, which he didn't have high hopes for).
Nico had been obsessing like this for weeks now. It didn't start that way though. Initially it was just a crush, and Nico didn't even realize it for what it was until much, much later.
He used to think Percy was his hero(and perhaps he was), that the wonderful, euphoric feeling he always got around the son of Poseidon was just reverence. And it was, partially.
But when he tagged along as a third wheel(Percy had invited him, Annabeth was beyond angry) on one of their dates, he figured it out. The jealousy was almost to much to handle(Nico has a bit of an anger issue, and nobody really wanted the theater crashed by world war II veterans shooting popcorn and slushies at everyone) so he fled the movie and hid for awhile. He's been owning up to it slowly but surely, and he's been praying, praying to any god that would listen that Percy might somehow feel the same.
But every night, it became more clear to him, Percy would never be his.
His beautiful green eyes would never look at Nico the same way they did at Annabeth, and Nico will never be able to run his fingers through that black silky hair like she could.
Nico thought he heard his heart shatter as Percy mumbled an "I love you" against Annabeth's lips, and walked away. Nico might have been Prince of the Dead, but he had never felt so lifeless as he did now. He turned from the heartbreaking scene so as to try and salvage what was left of his emotions(good luck).
Nico took a deep breath.
He knew his praying was useless, the gods would never allow him to be with Percy. After all, his dad would have a heart attack(if that was possible for a god) if he knew about Nico's feelings for "that filthy son of Poseidon". Even more so if Percy actually returned those feelings(Nico had a good hunch he didn't).
Nico looked up at the night sky. He had just come to terms with his feelings, and now he had to accept the fact that Percy Jackson, hero of Olympus, was strictly off limits.
