Author's Note: I'm sure all of you know by now that I RP as Quint on dA. Anyways, recently, Quint had time to sit down and think. He mused how both and he and Rock were able to be in Cyberspace (the Afterlife) at the exact same time and came across a conclusion he didn't really know what to feel about: he might not be Rockman at all. That, and Copy also told Quint, a long time ago, that memories couldn't be trusted; after all, look at his memories and who he was.
Also, while this fic may be RP inspired, it doesn't necessarily fit into the RP universe. Actually, it definitely doesn't.
Disclaimer: I do not own Rockman / Megaman and have made no money off of this piece.
The thought had never occurred to Quint before, but one day, on one ordinary day, it just hit him like a rampaging Gutsdozer. It... bothered him. The thought that everything was a lie, that everything he had worked for was a lie... What if none of it was true?
What if he wasn't actually Rockman? What if the real Rockman Light died the day he was kidnapped, taken back in time, and reprogrammed by Dr. Wily? What if he was just another person that was wearing Rockman's shell? Another soul, of sorts? Another clone that just happened to live in Rockman's body?
The fact that he had Rock's memories meant nothing. He remembered the clone that he -- or was it Rock? -- had met during the first war. That clone, Copy, could have passed himself off as the real Rockman had he only tried. Copy had clearly spoken of things that only Rockman had known -- he had Rock's memories. The only thing that would tip people off that they were different were the ever so slight alterations of the armor and the personality. And much of Quint's personality was so different from Rock's that it scared him. It scared him a lot. Quint had had memories of a previous life, but were they really his, or just left over memories from when Rock had lived in this body? Leftover memories from the other soul that used to live in it?
Of course, that brought up the question as to whether Robot Masters had souls. He could already hear certain people, like Dr. Wily, other Robot Masters, and those crazy religious fanatics that kept preaching that robots were children of the devil or something like that yelling, saying that robots were simply machines that didn't have souls.
Or... it may have absolutely nothing to do with souls. A computer could be wiped clean, and programs and files that were on the computer could be put back on it, and it could still access cache data if it was done correctly, but the computer would not be the same. It was a brand new computer. What if it was the same case with him? What if... what if the only reason Quint had Rock's memories was because it was simply cache data from the other person that had lived in this body...?
He had no idea whether he was simply someone else, but... it sure complicated things. He could no longer look at Rockman without worrying about this issue, he could no longer look at any member of the Light family without wondering whether the real Rockman Light's fate was to die at the hands of his nemesis. What a fate for the hero of the world to suffer...
And if that turned out to be the case, well... Quint seriously commended the kid for going through everything he did (for he did have the memories). The green Robot Master deeply cared for the Light family, though whether it was because Rock cared for them or because he genuinely did could be brought into question. Quint, for one, would have gladly broken away from the Light family, and never let any of them remain in contact with him, especially Rockman, had it not been for one of those memories that may or may not be his.
It didn't matter whether he was Rock's older self or not. Rock really loved Quint.
