Previously on Kiss The Rain…Liz wasn't surprised when she Max, Michael and Isabel were all suspicious of what Serena said but it wasn't time to get into it. "We'll talk more later." Before she could suggest that the group make their way back towards Roswell she heard a loud gasp from where the front door was. The only reason she heard it was because the music had gone to another song so there was a brief moment of quiet. She looked up and paled, seeing Phillip Evans standing there in shock as he looked at the group…not surprisingly his eyes were directly on Max and Isabel. "Shit." She muttered and jumped up, running to interfere with Phillip. "Not here." She whispered to him, pushing him out the door without much resistance. She knew the only reason for that was because of shock.

"Can't anything ever go the way they are supposed to?" She heard Maria ask before she was completely out the door.

Liz made sure that she and Phillip Evans were away from the people that he had come into the restaurant with before she turned to him. "I was going to come tonight and explain that they were back." She told him before he could ask. "How long?" He choked out after several uncomfortable moments spent in silence. "Yesterday." She answered, thankful that she didn't have to lie to the man. She and the Evans parents had gotten closer over the years since she spent so much time with them and Alexander. It was because of this that she found lying to them was much harder than lying to her own parents…something that she still did too often for her own comfort these days.

"How?" He asked, though his eyes couldn't be drawn to her and instead were staring at the wall of the small restaurant as if he could see inside it and to his missing children who he hadn't seen in over five years. "I don't know. We haven't gotten the full story yet. We've been telling him our version with everything that has gone on in our lives the past five years." She answered quietly to which his gaze was finally moved from the wall to her. "Everything?" She sighed but shook her head. "No, not everything. Just the general stuff. How Alex died, Alexander, etc." Phillip pulled the young woman into a strong hug, something that she appreciated even though it was still fairly awkward considering.

"Are you planning on telling him everything?" The elder Evans asked quietly. Liz shrugged her shoulders though she knew the answer to his question. "I would like to say no." She replied. "I would like to keep it from him, them, but I know I can't. It'll come up at some point and I can't let any of them be blindsided by the knowledge that…well…you know." She told him quietly to which he nodded. "I understand."

The two went silent, something that they often did when in one another's presence. It wasn't that they didn't enjoy one another's company…it was just that neither of them were people who felt the need to fill silence with useless chatter. "Do you want to come inside and say hi or would you rather wait until I bring them over tomorrow or Sunday to the house?" She asked, not sure what the protocol for reuniting with your children after five years apart truly was. "I'll come over and say hi, then we'll talk on Sunday." She knew he wanted to do more than that but he wasn't alone and as such, just like the rest of them, he had to keep up pretenses. It was something that she, Maria, Kyle and Jim had all drilled into his and Mrs. Evans brains over the years…the need for secrecy. Sometimes she truly felt as if she was living out a really bad spy movie but that was her life and as such she would protect it at all costs.

"Okay, let's go." She told him, taking his proffered arm and making their way back into the restaurant.

Meanwhile back in the restaurant the group sat in stunned silence as Liz pushed Mr. Evans outside. "Was that my dad?" Isabel asked finally, though from the looks on everyone's faces she knew that she wasn't mistaken.

"Yep." Maria answered with a laugh before hearing Liz's ringtone sound once again. She looked at the caller ID and saw that it was the Evan's house number, which meant that a little boy that she adored was calling his favorite person once again. "Max?" She stated softly and the brown eyes that honestly were too beautiful to belong to a boy –man- but he pulled it off somehow. "Want to hear?" She asked and as she knew he would, he understood and nodded hungrily.

Opening the phone she quickly put it on speaker phone and answered. "Hello?" There was a pause before a young voice called out. "Lizzie?" He asked, his voice sounding confused. "Nope, this is your favorite aunt Superman. What are you up to?" She asked, trying to keep the trepidation out of her voice as she talked to the little boy. "Auntie Ria!" He cheered before quieting down, securing her knowledge that he hadn't been told he could use the phone again. "Where's my Lizzie?" She snickered in response. "Haven't we talked about this kid? You have to share her."

"Nu uh!" Was the childish response. "Where's MY Lizzie?" She laughed again before replying, knowing she could argue about this all day long. "Liz is outside talking to someone. Didn't she just tell you that she'd see or talk to you tonight?" She asked him. "Yeah, but I need to talk to her nowwwwww." Was the response, coming out on a whine at the end. "Well hon, she's busy…can you talk to your favorite aunt?" She noticed that this time Isabel sent her a glare…yeah, now she'd have some competition but honestly she wasn't worried. That kid adored her just as much as she adored him.

"I can't tell you Auntie Ria. I can only tell Lizzie. Can you go get her? I'll be real quick!" She smiled fondly. "Sorry buddy but she's talking to someone about something important. I'll have her call you back as soon as she gets back inside, okay?" There was another pause before a loud sigh. "Fine." He said and Maria could hear the pout in his voice. "Tuck that lip away and she'll call you in a little bit. Bye Superman." She told him and chuckled when she heard a scoff and the call disconnected. Putting Liz's phone back she turned her attention back to Max, not at all surprised to see tears in his dark eyes. "Pretty incredible, huh?" She asked.

Before he could reply the bell on the top of the door sounded and in came Liz and Phillip Evans. The two made their way back to the table where Max and Isabel stood up. Michael stayed seated, which Liz shot him a glare about. He simply shrugged, watching his two closest friends embrace their father. He knew by the shaking of Isabel's shoulders that she was crying though trying not to make it noticeable.

Phillip held his children tightly, desperately trying to reign in his emotions as they weren't alone. "It's okay Izzy, we'll talk later sweetheart." He told her, kissing her forehead before turning to his son. His son who held so much torment in his deep brown eyes. "We'll all talk later and it's going to be okay." He told them both though looking at his son as he spoke. The two nodded before releasing him, though Max had to physically remove his sisters. Phillip took a deep breath before joining his coworkers, though his heart and mind were still with his children.

Once Phillip had rejoined his coworkers and Max, Isabel and Liz had all taken their seats again, the group stared at one another in silence before Serena spoke up. "I think we need to get going." She told them all. Liz and Zan both nodded their heads, knowing that the last thing they all needed was a group of lawyers overhearing anything they were bound to speak about.

Serena quickly payed the bill before the group walked out, standing near the three cars. "I think I'm going to head on home." Zan stated to which Serena shot him a glare…something that anyone else would have been cowering away from yet Zan simply smiled. "Baby, you know as well as I do that they all need to talk without us breaking down their necks. We won't be far away." He goaded, though it didn't look like it was having any effect on Serena. He sauntered over to her and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her lips briefly before pulling away. "Plus, I haven't spent any time alone with you in days…come on babe." Luckily Zan knew how to play Serena like a fiddle, just like she did to him, and it seemed to work.

"Fine, but we will be back Sunday…and by then we all need to have a few conversations." She stated though it was directed towards Liz, who nodded. "Got it."

Once the two were gone Liz turned to the rest of the group. "We are going to be a tight fit but we'll have to make due." She told them, wincing as she realized what that meant. Isabel was going to have to sit on a lap, as was Maria. Hmm, awkward. "Uh, girls on guy's laps." She told them before Isabel scoffed. "I'm not sitting on my brothers lap, nor am I sitting on Michael's." She told them all loftily, reminding Liz highly of the old Isabel. Maria glared as well, not wanting to sit on anyone's lap either. She groaned, this was going to be a chore. Kyle snickered before taking the keys from her and throwing them to Michael. "Okay, here's the plan. Maria, sit on my lap. Liz, sit on Max's. Michael drive, Isabel take shotgun."

Liz glared at Kyle in a way that if she had the power to shoot lasers out of her eyes, he'd be dead already. Maria was glaring as well but not nearly as heatedly as she was. Max seemed delighted by the idea and Isabel was happy with the arrangement. The guys got in and the girls followed suite. Maria was not amused to be sitting on Kyle's lap but it was better than sitting on Michael's, considering she hadn't seen him in five years.

Liz gingerly climbed into Max's lap, trying to sit on his knee so to not feel like it was as intimate as it seemed. Max however was having none of that and instead pulled her back so her back was against his chest. "Safety first." He whispered and buckled the two of them into one seatbelt. "Michael drive sanely, you don't have a valid driver's license anymore nor do you have insurance on my car." Michael waved his hand to her in a "yeah yeah" fashion before truning the car on and driving out onto the road. Thankfully it seemed as if driving a car was like riding a bike, you never forgot how to do it, and within moments they were cruising down the highway. Liz tried to keep herself from relaxing into the man behind her but she couldn't help but do so anyway. She felt Max rest his head against hers and she closed her eyes.

Maybe things would be okay in the end.

TBC! Sorry for the delay everyone! My life got a little crazy after my surgery! Hopefully I will get out faster updates again but I'm not going to settle on a time frame as January and the beginning of February are going to be a little crazy for me at work. Anyway, I wanted to ask all of you something. Do you prefer Kyle and Isabel together, would you like me to bring Jesse in for Isabel or make OC's for the both of them? Just let me know in a review and whichever pairing wins I'll get to working on it!
