This is my response to day 7 of Siriusly Smart's iPod challenge. It is a Bellamort one shot.

"If you never say your name out loud to anyone,

They can never call you by it."

-Regina Spektor, 'Better'

He watched with mild interest from the corner of his eye as Bellatrix dressed herself, hiding her pale slender body with dark dress robes. His hunger had been sated, and no longer did he have need of Bellatrix's company, which was why he noticed the way she lingered by the mirror, adjusting her dark curls with a nonchalance that was affected. Stretching languidly, he considered their arrangement. Bellatrix was endlessly loyal to the cause, extremely capable in battle, and expected to be treated no differently for sharing his bed; in short, the ideal companion.

"My Lord?" He rolled onto his side in order to examine her more closely. Bellatrix appeared nervous, fidgeting in a similar fashion as those who were awaiting punishment. Interesting. With her zealousness and skill, she was yet to fail him. "Might I ask a question?"

"You are trustworthy, Bellatrix, and fully aware of the consequences should the information be divulged without my express permission." He nodded his assent, wondering what aspect of his plans Bellatrix would question. She knew better than to argue with him, yet often her suggestions were useful.

"What's your name?" She was renowned for her bravery, and yet Bellatrix bowed her head, a testimony to how very dangerous he was. Her question had caught him off guard. He frowned in displeasure, summoning his wand to him.

"I am your lord and master, and I expect nothing other than complete subservience. Crucio." He waved his wand, and Bellatrix crumpled to the ground, not a sound escaping her lips. Her resilience pleased him, and so he decided against inflicting further pain.

Bellatrix stood shakily and bowed to him.

"Forgive me, my Lord." There was complete adoration burning in her dark eyes. Bellatrix was devoted to him in every way, he knew, which was why he could not tell her. He could never unveil the dreadful truth that would shatter her resolve to serve him.

Tom Marvollo Riddle.

Unworthy.

"You will leave me now." His voice was cold, detached, and he did not look as Bellatrix complied, staggering from his chamber. Without using legilimency, he knew that Bellatrix longed for a hint of tenderness from him. She would wait a lifetime.

He despised her for making him consider his greatest weakness.
