I do this for you
The dust was clearing over the battlefield. Men were rejoicing and sobbing all around. A girl stepped out of the fog. She was human, and though she stood tall and proud her face betrayed her youth. She crossed the desolate plain, ignoring the dead and the living alike, for she had only one destination; the black mountain at the end of the carnage.
As she crossed the field many began to follow her, but she paid them no mind. Finally she approached the mound.
"Mighty Shruikan," She stated, using the language of power; "For years you have been held in place by horrible enchantments that prevent your true nature from showing. My gift to you is freedom."
The black hill turned to face her, drawing gasps from all who observed. After the death of the Dark King, his dragon had slipped their mind. The dragon bent his head, holding it mere inches from her fingers.
The girl lost no time. She bowed her head and started chanting phrase after phrase in the ancient language. Her voice never climbed higher than a whisper, but the whole Earth seemed to shake with the power her words invoked. After several minutes she stilled, but kept her head bowed and her eyes closed.
The girl felt her strength draining, much faster than she had anticipated. She felt a stab of fear; what if it was not enough?
As she felt the last reserves of her strength give way, she readied herself for death, but instead was surprised by a rush of molten energy. She opened her eyes and turned her head to see that the rider of the red dragon and the dragon himself had joined with her, lending her strength needed to complete the task. As she redoubled her efforts she felt the link of more consciousness' as they joined her.
She soon sensed that the end was near, and broke all contact with those helping. She reached out, and as the welcoming arms of death caught her in an embrace for the ages, the mighty black dragon lifted its head, relishing in his sanity and freedom for the first time in over a century.
As the crowd stood in awe, five words seemed to echo over the survivors:
"I do this for you."
