Full Moon

I looked at Mika's sleeping form bathed in moonlight. It was one of the few days of the month when the moon's light shown through the window on this side of the apartment, and she always loved staring at it. She usually fell asleep doing this.

She would always say how lucky she was to have a clear view of it when it was full, but what I knew was that I was always lucky to have her by my side. She shifted in her sleep, trying to find a comfortable position, and I couldn't tear my eyes away from her.

She glowed like an angel in the moon's light, even more so with her hair scattered on the pillow behind her. I laughed softly, knowing she would complain in the morning about forgetting to wrap it, but she was too beautiful to wake.

I came away from my spot by the window and lay down next to her, unsurprised when she drifted towards the warmth of my body. She threw her arm over my torso and settled her head on my chest. I brushed a few stray strands of hair out of her face and took the time to look her over, wishing to memorize this image of her forever.

The changes she had gone through over the past months didn't make her any less gorgeous, it was like watching the waxing and waning of the moon. I placed my hand on her swollen belly and smiled when I picked up on our child's heartbeat.

Boy or girl, I knew I would be a better father to this child and give it more love than I had ever gotten in the days I was part of the Ozunu clan.

I rolled on my side and pulled Mika into my arms, letting my eyes drift closed. My smile widened a little more when I felt the baby kick. 'Soon little one.'

'I promise to protect you both with my life.', I thought tilting my head up to spare the full moon a final glance before I surrendered myself to sleep, by my beloved Mika's side.
