Here it is after three years I'm finally done with this story. I wish I had put more effort into updating the story regularly but what are you going to do? Still this story did help me improve my writing so something great did come out of it. To those of you who actually got a kick out of this story I'm so god damn glad I could entertain you for a while, hell I'm happy that anyone actually enjoyed something I made.

Before you read though please, and I'm asking super politely, give a thanks to both my Betas otakufangirl101 and The Keeper of Worlds whose support and help have not only improved these chapters but kept me writing this story. So please a round of applause, or a golf clap if you can't be loud, for these two.

Thanks for reading.

Chapter 28: The End Before the End

"Are they Akatsuki?" Kakashi asked calmly, his training making sure that he kept a cool head. Still, he couldn't help the bad feeling that settled in his gut like a stone.

"We're not sure but they aren't wearing the robes."

"How far is the pursuit team?"

"Should be fifteen minutes top."

"We're cutting it down to ten, try to keep up," Kakashi said as he picked up the pace.

"Yes, sir!"

His head was pounding and the constant jostling wasn't helping, "Damn it…stop."

"He's waking up Master!"

"Tomoko?" No that was a stranger's voice, a man. Where was he and why was he tied up? The memory was fuzzy in his head, but he knew something was wrong and being tied up wasn't usually a good thing. "Who the fuck are you?!" he growled, struggling against the ropes.

The leader leaped back and violently brought his fist down on Naruto's skull. "We can't have him causing trouble. Keep moving, Priestess Ito awaits," the man said as Naruto went limp.

"Yes Master Nobunaga!"

A lone yellow eye narrowed as it witnessed the shot Naruto took to the head. "I see them, two-hundred yards away. How do we take them?"

"Hmm," Dragon leapt across another rooftop as a hundred plans to take down the enemy ran through his head. "Too many, based on the reaction of that last one I'll only be able to take down one or two of them. Fortunately we don't have to take them down."

"I understand," Tomoko said as she notched an arrow covered in seals made of red ink.

"Hurry over the wall," Nobunaga said pulling out a rope and grappling hook as his brothers did the same. Monks could manipulate chakra, but their style differed from the ninja. While they could leap like shinobi, wall climbing was out of the question.

FWOOSH CHINCK!

The monks tested the ropes then began scaling the wall. Once they were over, it was just a quick sprint to their escape.

FWOOSH SHINCK!

All eyes flew to the glowing arrow sticking out of the wall above them and a quick warning cry almost made it out of Nobunaga's mouth before all hell broke loose.

BOOM!

Chunks of wall came down on the monks but reflexes and self-preservation kicked in and they leapt to safety, exhibiting the same speed and agility Kato possessed. And just like Kato, the man holding Naruto found a needle in his neck and his body stiffer than a corpse. Nobunaga growled as the Anbu snatched their hostage out of his comrade's arms.

"No you don't!" Dragon felt something wrap around his ankle and yanked him down. "Now Hoshi!" A shadow fell over Dragon as his back hit the rooftop and he turned his eyes up in time to see a furious monk bearing down on him. Dragon cursed as he rolled away with Naruto from the destructive axe kick, unable to take care of the chain wrapped around his ankle. The distraction cost him as the monk holding the other end violently dragged him across the roof, forcing him to drop Naruto.

Another monk snatched Naruto up, "I've got him, Akiyama!"

"Good. Now get him over the wall Hiro!" Nobunaga ordered as he moved to cover Hiro's escape, catching and throwing away another explosive arrow before it brought the wall down a second time. "Hoshi get Ikishi back up. Akiyama keep that ANBU down. I'll handle the girl." Nobunaga leapt at Tomoko catching another arrow midflight and throwing it back at her. Tomoko dodged the arrow easily thanks to her Takagan and just as easily put Nobunaga in the sights of another arrow.

"Not fast enough!" As she let the arrow fly, Nobunaga disappeared from sight. "Whe-urrg!"

Tomoko wheezed as Nobunaga's fist dug into her stomach, shock written over her face. "Is this fast enough?"

"H-Ho-uurg!" Tomoko wheezed as Nobunaga's fist hammered into her stomach again. She tried to leap back but Nobunaga held her in place and hammered another blow into her stomach. "Hurgh!"

"Urgh!"

"Urgh!"

"Hkar!" Tomoko coughed up blood as Nobunaga's blows began to lift her off the ground.

"Khahr!" Each blow felt like a sledgehammer.

"Khahr!" Knocking the air out of her lungs

"Kuurh!" Crushing her intestines

SPLAT

Blood and drool dripped from Tomoko's mouth onto the rooftop as she struggled to stay on her feet. Nobunaga pulled his fist away but Tomoko desperately held onto it, "Give…him…back…"

"Let go girl," Nobunaga commanded coldly.

"Give…him…ba—"

THUMP!

"Urk…uuugh," Tomoko fell to her hands and knees coughing up more blood as Nobunaga turned away. Tears welled up in her eyes as she saw that Hiro was nearly over the wall. Her eyes turned to Dragon praying that he was able to help. Her prayers went unanswered as she saw Dragon barely fending off Akiyama, Hoshi, and Ikishi, so gathering what little strength she had she grasped Nobunaga's leg, "You will…not…get away!"

Nobunaga smirked as he stared down at the one-eyed girl, "Fighting for someone you care for, I can understand that, I can even admire it, but stop while you still have your life."

"I…will not!" Tomoko growled as she tightened her hold on his leg. "He would…fight for mine…so I will…fight—"

CRUNCH!

"Enough!" Nobunaga shouted, grinding his foot into Tomoko's face, "You're wasting my time." Tomoko fought against the darkness, clutching Nobunaga's leg even tighter as if it was an anchor keeping her conscious, but it was no use. Nobunaga pulled his leg away from Tomoko's twitching fingers as her body went limp. Nobunaga felt relief as he saw Hiro clear the wall and Hoshi, Akiyama, and Ikishi bring the ANBU down. "Hurry! Before they recover, over the wall!"

The monks scaled the wall quickly and Nobunaga was the first over the wall. He offered a hand to Hoshi but a black blur caught his eye, "Ikishi look out!"

Ikishi swung out of the way as Inu drove his blade in for the kill, "You won't stop us!"

"Don't be too sure of that," the sound of screeching birds filled the air and Ikishi tried to stop his momentum but it was too late. A hand covered in dazzling blue light punched through his chest, "Raikiri!"

"Ikishi!" Akiyama cried out, "You bas-"

"Summoning Justu: Toad Hammer!" Akiyama cried out as Jiraiya's toad turned him into a smear against the wall.

"Run!" Nobunaga and Hoshi leapt off the wall and into the forest, their ropes and grappling hooks left behind. They jumped from branch to branch with Jiraiya, Kakashi, and Inu right on their tails like a pack of wolves.

"They'll catch up before we get to Hiro," Hoshi said and Nobunaga desperately tried to ignore the implication. "You know what I have to do Master Nobunaga."

"Damn it," Nobunaga muttered.

"Tell Priestess Ito I'm happy to have known her," Hoshi said gently then tore off his shirt and smeared blood across his chest. Two tattoos, a large swastika on his back, and on his chest, a tattoo made up of a smaller circle within a larger circle and eight bars spreading out from the inner circle and ending past the outer circle, "You won't get by me Konoha scum. Peace of the Noble Eightfold Path!"

Jiraiya and Kakashi's eyes widened as they felt the chakra explode ahead of them. Muscles tensed as they felt it rocketing towards them, "Move!" A blaze of gold chakra shot through the trees and missed Kakashi and Jiraiya as they moved just in time. Inu wasn't so lucky. A strong elbow drove into his gut and launched him through the forest.

"Damn it. I hope he's fine." Moving that to the back of his mind, Jiraiya focused on the man in front of him. The only striking feature about him were the tattoos and gold chakra, other than that he looked like some common monk.

"We don't have time for this," Kakashi pulled out a kunai. "I'll keep him busy while you go retrieve Naruto."

"Watch yourself Kakashi. This guy is giving me a bad feeling."

"Don't worry about me, worry about Naruto," Kakashi replied and Jiraiya took his leave.

"Oof!" Hoshi had other plans for Jiraiya and he sent the sage flying back. Snagging a branch he recovered and dropped down next to Kakashi.

"You're not going anywhere!" Hoshi shouted barring the way to Naruto. Jiraiya and Kakashi noticed that one of the bars on his chest tattoo vanished. Hoshi grit his teeth as he observed them as well, "That blow should have killed him."

"Seems like his technique has a limit," Kakashi explained never taking his eyes off the monk, "but he's fast. My Sharingan saw it, but I'll barely be able to keep up with him. How about you, can you still fight?"

"Now that I realize what we're up against I'll be fine, but watch yourself. He hits almost as hard as Tsunade." Jiraiya replied wincing as he touched his ribs. Yep, one was fractured. "Can't believe I let him get the drop on me though. Looks like we'll have to put him down, ready?"

"Katon: Grand Fireball Jutsu!" Kakashi shot the massive flame at Hoshi and then looked around. There was no way that attack hit, not with that speed.

"I've got you!" Hoshi appeared right behind Kakashi.

"No you don't," Jiraiya shouted as he kicked Hoshi in the ribs, returning the favor, sending him crashing into the ground, "I owe you that one! Stay on your toes he's not done yet."

"Damn you!" Hoshi hollered picking himself up. Another bar disappeared, but Hoshi paid it no mind as he ran toward a tree and wrapped his arms around it. Jiraiya and Kakashi's eyes nearly popped out of their skulls as Hashi ripped the tree from the ground. "Take this!" roared Hoshi throwing the massive tree right at them. The tree was thrown with such force that it tore through a good chunk of the forest, a trail of destruction in its wake.

"I thought you said almost as strong as Tsunade," Kakashi grunted digging himself out of the ground. Jiraiya smirked as he landed next to Kakashi noticing another bar disappear. "You're alright aren't you? Besides it looks like he only has five more of those in him, so why don't we force his hand."

"Got it," Kakashi rushed forward rapid fire jabs missing by a hair. Kakashi grit his teeth and kept up the assault of near misses, while Jiraiya made another break for it.

"I will not fail," with another burst of speed Hoshi escaped Kakashi's assault and shoulder bashed Jiraiya only to fly through him.

"Rasengan!" The blue sphere of destruction crashed into Hoshi's chest sheering away the chakra cloak and tearing into the flesh beneath. Hoshi crashed into a tree with a sickening crack and Jiraiya was certain a few of his vertebrae were broken.

"Seems he wasn't as tough as we thought," Kakashi said standing next to Jiraiya. "Let's get moving."

"Wait. I don't think he's done yet," Jiraiya said wearily. Sure enough the monk rose to his feet with no trouble at all and their eyes widened as the skin and muscle Jiraiya had turned to ground beef knit itself together. "So it isn't just speed and strength."

"We can't afford to waste more time. I can handle him from here, you have to keep going," Kakashi said desperately. He wasn't sure how far his student had been taken, but on the path they were taking it seemed like Earth Country was their destination. If they crossed the border, only Jiraiya would be able to pursue, and even then it would only be for short distance unless he wanted to make Iwagakure suspicious about his presence and worsen their relations with Konoha.

"You would have to open the gates to take him. Think you can do that before your body gives out?" Jiraiya asked, his eyes flicking in the direction Naruto had been taken.

"I'm a bit rusty," Kakashi said scratching his cheek before his eyes took on a deadly glint, "but it won't be a problem. What about you?"

"I'm the great Jiraiya," he replied boastfully, "I would've destroyed this punk already if he wasn't so tenacious. His other friends might try to stall me the same way, but I've already got something in mind. Besides I won't be taking him on alone. That assault and healing himself cost him, look." Jiraiya pointed and Kakashi saw that only three bars remained. "So I don't expect you to take too long. Noticed anything else about his technique?"

"I noticed aside from a base boost to his speed and power he can only raise one attribute per bar even higher and only for a short burst of time." Kakashi took a stance focusing on his chakra network. "This is going to be a pain but I can't let my student down. Gate of Opening!"

"I'll leave it to you." Jiraiya said making another break for the tree line.

"Get back here!" Hoshi leapt right into Jiraiya's path ready to drive him into the ground.

"Dynamic Entry!" Kakashi's foot smashed into Hoshi's face, his head snapping violently back with a sickening crack and his body crashing into the ground. "Can't ever let Guy find out about that or it'll be youth this and youth that."

Jiraiya disappeared into the forest as Hoshi's neck cracked and popped back into place. Hoshi muttered a curse as he got back to his feet and another bar disappeared. Both men stared each other down knowing that this fight had to end now. "Seems like that jutsu of yours was a dud."

"I held off Sharingan Kakashi and Jiraiya of the Sannin. I wouldn't call that a dud."

"Let's see if I can't change your mind." Kakashi went up in smoke and Hoshi leapt backwards as Kakashi erupted from the ground, his kunai whistling through the air.

"Still too slow!" Hoshi spat, driving in and using one of his paths to increase his strength. Kakashi's eyes widened, his momentum had carried him up into the air leaving him wide open. Hoshi's fist caved in Kakashi's skull; bone and sinew fracturing but it wasn't enough for Hoshi, with a fearsome roar he drove Kakashi into the earth. A gory mixture of blood, brains, and bone was all that remained of Kakashi's skull. Hoshi sighed as he removed his hand, "You may have been my enemy but an enemy's life is still a life. I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Raikiri!"

"H-How?" Hoshi coughed gazing down at the mesmerizing dancing chakra that had torn through his chest.

"This Sharingan isn't just for show." The bloody headless corpse vanished before Hoshi's eyes. "And by my count you're on your last leg." Hoshi could barely stand, but everything felt numb, not even the hole in his chest hurt. "You've got nothing left." There was one thing left and it would mean the end of this battle.

"I won't fail!" with the last of his strength Hoshi clutched onto Kakashi's wrist with everthing he had left as the last path crumbled and golden chakra exploded out of him. "Do you hear me!"

Kakashi struggled to tear his arm out of Hoshi's chest but the monk had him in a vice grip. "He can't be…"

"This is the end Kakashi!" snarled Hoshi snapping his head around to look the man dead in the eye. "For me and…you?" It took him a moment to realize what he was looking at, a straw dummy that looked like Kakashi with a note on its face.

"Sorry I still want to get lost on the road of life."

"Cheating shinobi son of a—"

BOOM!

Kakashi looked back at the golden bloom, admiring it with a small smile, before turning away. "Didn't think he'd be such a sore loser."

Jiraiya could feel their presence up ahead. "Why did they stop?"

"Is it done?" asked Nobunaga glancing back at the forest occasionally. "It won't be long now."

"There it's done." Hiro said closing a large brown casket that stood seven feet tall, round, and wide as a full grown man. Covering its surface were exactly 208 sealing tags. Naruto lay beside the casket still unconscious. "We're ready."

"Just in time!" Jiraiya shouted as he landed in the clearing, "just like any real hero.'

"Damn it's too soon," Nobunaga spat loudly.

"Now it you fellas wouldn't mind surrendering it would make this a lot easier." Jiraiya said cheerfully but then killer intent radiated off of him like a thick fog. "Of course if you want to scrap I wouldn't mind beating you for taking my student."

"Don't take us so lightly," Hiro growled stepping in a front of Naruto but leapt to the side as a tongue shot out of the trees and scooped Naruto up.

"I wasn't planning to," Jiraiya replied, "Now surrender. You can't beat me even with that power boost of yours."

"Damn, Hiro!"

"Right," Hiro threw a bomb similar to the one he'd used on Naruto. The field erupted into smoke with bits of paper mixed in.

"This isn't over Jiraiya." Nobunaga shouted while the Sannin readied himself for a surprise attack.

"This smoke, somehow its blocking their chakra," Jiraiya realized waiting for the attack, "A weapon that makes sensor ninja useless, just who are these guys." Sensor ninja were special types of ninja who could sense and identify chakra. This was different from a ninja who could sense chakra, a skill most high level shinobi were capable, as their range was short and only gave a general direction of the shinobi around them. Sensors could see the chakra with their mind's eye, identify its element, pin point the location of shinobi, and their distance was far greater. Jiraiya was a not a sensor but he could understand how devastating a weapon like that could be.

When the smoke cleared Jiraiya saw the monks had taken the opportunity to turn tail, "Hmmph at least we got Naruto back."

"Jiraiya," Kakashi called out as he landed in the clearing looking around for his student. "Naruto…"

"Is fine Kakashi," Jiraiya snapped his fingers and a toad hopped out of the trees. "Gamatan cough him up." Gamatan spit out Naruto who, despite showing some wear and tear, looked completely fine.

Kakashi sighed and looked to the sky, "Good, Sakura would never forgive me if something happened to him."

"Tell me about it. Tsunade would pound me into paste if I lost the kid," the two men shared a chuckle as Kakashi picked up Naruto and Jiraiya grabbed a punch of the paper from the smoke bomb. "Let's get him home."

Haku's eyes were fixed on the horizon, hoping to see him coming down the road leading into Konoha. Her knee wouldn't stop twitching and she fought the urge to run out the gates, even though she didn't know where to go. She glanced at the other people that formed the small group waiting at the gates. Kiba had shown up with Shino and Hinata, who had helped an injured Neji to the gates. Along with them came Shikamaru and Chouji bringing a red-haired girl who had a rather unique introduction, "I'm Tayuya, I'm with shithead, and don't fucking ask anything else."

The first to have been at the gates was Sakura, who hadn't moved since Haku had arrived, her eyes never leaving the horizon. Next to her was Mei, her small body shaking with what could be mistaken as sadness until she'd snap and start pounding the ground cursing her head off. She would eventually quiet down and repeat the whole process over again. Shizune was also there in place of Tsunade and was trying her best to calm both Sakura and Mei, but to no avail.

"Sorry for crashing this little get together." Everyones' head snapped to the Kankuro who accompanied his sisters Temari and Gaara.

"Read the mood, moron," Temari muttered as the Sand Siblings stood off to the side.

"What are you doing here?" Sakura sneered.

"Waiting for my friend to return," Gaara answered simply, "same as you."

"If I recall the Hokage forbid you from seeing Naruto," Sakura spat back, trying to burn a hole through the red head with her eyes.

"If I recall you were the one who almost killed him, gorilla," Gaara shot back in her usual tone.

"How about I break you skull, sand rat!"

"Try it gorilla." Temari and Kankuro placed firm hands on Gaara's shoulders holding her back.

"Get off me!" Sakura snarled as Shikamaru, Kiba, and Chouji held her back.

"Sakura," the girl's head turned to Shizune, "This is not the time or place for this. If you don't settle down I'll have you escorted to Tsunade." Sakura stepped back and started sweating bullets as she recalled Tsunade's threat. "Got it?"

"Yes ma'am…"

"I see someone!" Haku cried out. The group turned to look and sure enough Jiraiya and Kakashi were making their way to the gates carrying Naruto and Inu.

"Shizune get Inu to the hospital. Haku come check on Naruto," ordered Jiraiya.

"Hai," the medics set off to do their duties. Haku ran a quick scan of Naruto but found nothing wrong. "He's fine, aside from a bump on the head when he wakes up."

"That's going to be really annoying," everyone stared as Naruto sat up, "but I'm more pissed off that I was the damsel again."

"Naruto!" Sakura and Haku wrapped their arms around him tightly and Mei threw herself into his chest.

"Hey it's alright. I made it back," Naruto said cheerfully trying to comfort them.

"Shithead you scared the crap out of me!" Tayuya shouted happily refusing to be as sappy as the other girls and run over to him.

"Shithead?" Tayuya's eyebrow quirked but shook her head he was probably tired and that blow to the head probably didn't help. "Yeah I'm happy to see you to!"

"Hey Gaara, if you want to go over there we won't say anything," Termari said nudging her sister forward.

"The hell I won't! You go over there and I'll-oof!" Kankuro doubled over Temari's fist.

"Don't be such an ass. Go on over Gaara."

"I can't."

"Oh come on it—"

"That is not Naruto." A wave of sand tore Naruto away from the group and into the air.

"Woah Gaara!" Temari cried out.

"I knew it," Sakura roared charging Gaara. "You're nothing but a backstabbing rat!" This time it was Kakashi who held Sakura back.

"Put him down bitch," Tayuya growled as she reached for her kunai.

"Shadow Possession Jutsu." Shikamaru grunted as Sakura struggled against his hold. "Calm down woman! Oi Temari! Would your sister like to share her thoughts with the rest of us?"

"I'm curious as well," Jiraiya said readying some moves to stop the girl if things got out of hand, but didn't move. Something had been bugging him on the trip back, the enemy's actions didn't make any sense and he wondered if the girl could confirm his suspicions.

"Every time Naruto and I are close the voice in my head shuts it's annoying mouth." Everyone who understood looked at Naruto suspiciously, while everyone else looked at Gaara nervously.

"Voices in her head?"

"Who is this psychotic fuck?" but Tayuya suddenly realized what felt off. Her curse mark would always react the closer he was to her. She'd been so happy to see him she hadn't noticed that she felt nothing from her mark.

"And right now the voice is laughing its head off, so I'll ask once more who are you and where is Naruto?" Kankuro and Temari shivered as Gaara's voice brought back some bad memories.

"Look, it's me Sand Princess—"

"Sand Coffin!" Everyone cried out as the sand crushed Naruto. "Only Naruto can call me that," Gaara snarled her usually stoic face the picture of rage.

"You bitch!" screamed Sakura, while Haku reached for her senbon.

"Sakura stop," Kakashi held her still and turned her to Naruto's body. "Look its clay." Everyone got near the remains and saw that it was in fact clay.

"A clone?" Jiraiya mused, "Damn I thought I had thrown a wrench in their plans. Looks like the pious bastards were sneakier than I thought."

"Then that means they got away with Naruto," Haku murmured and a dark cloud descended over the group.

"Naruto…"

"Shithead I should've had your back."

"Big Brother you can't be gone"

"Troublesom," Shiikamaru muttered, "it would've bben more valuable alive."

"Sorry," Gaara said back to her stoic self, "I have problems with my temper."

"Clearly psycho," Tayuya spat.

"Both of you shut it!" Sakura shouted, "neither of you are helping."

"How about I help shut that mouth of yours, bubblegum," Tayuya growled pulling out her kunai.

"Come on then," Sakura said smugly, taunting Tayuya.

"Sakura stop, Gaara did us a huger favor," Haku said stepping in between the hostile young women before another fight broke out, "Who knows how long it would've taken us to figure it out, and I'm sure Tayuya feels just as angry and helpless as us."

"Fine," both girls conceded bitterly.

"Don't worry Sakura, we'll get him back." Kakashi said placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Yeah and we'll be there to save his ass to," Kiba shouted boastfully.

"Don't' be so loud ya mutt," Shikamaru drawled before turning to Sakura, "but you can count on me and Choji to help."

"Yep," Chouji agreed cheerfully.

"I'll h-help to," Hinata said meekly, "I'm sure Neji would to."

"Of course I owe it to Naruto," Neji replied. "For showing me a better way."

"I'll help as well Sakura," Haku said sincerely, "he's precious to me to."

"I'm here as well," Shino muttered sullenly.

Gaara turned and walked away from the group, Temari and Kankuro right behind her. "Aren't you going to join their little rally?" Kankuro asked.

"Not like the gorilla would let me," Gaara replied. "Besides I'm sure we'll end up crossing paths."

"This isn't going to be easy but at least their resilient," Jiraiya chuckled.

"Do you think we'll find him Jiriaya?" Kakashi asked showing how worried he really was.

"Of course," Jiraiya replied earnestly, "Naruto isn't the type to stop fighting or struggling and I'm sure he's going to drive those guys up the wall, so we can't give up either."

Kakashi chuckled with Jiraiya, "You're right, so what do we do now?"

"First things first we have to report this to Tsunade. Then we take this clay and everything else and see if they tell us anything important and after that we interrogate the one we got locked up."

"Kakashi-sensei, do you think Naruto is alright?" Sakura asked worriedly.

"Death seems to hate Naruto so I'm sure he'll be fine Sakura," Kakashi said his confidence back, "and I'm sure he's going to be really angry when he wakes up."

"Ooh my head," Naruto moaned as he rubbed the bump on his skull.

CLINK JINGLE CLINK

Or he would have if it weren't for the shackle around his wrist. "Huh?" the other wrist was shackled to, leaving him dangling, his toes barely touching the ground.

"Aw Fuck!"
