Finn Hudson is the best brother ever.
Kurt decided that if there is an award for that, Finn should get it, because he can't think of a better way to thank his brother for being awesome.
The two of them, along with their respective parents, are currently decked out in bright rainbow colors, each carrying a flag and marching along with the gayest crowd Kurt has ever seen in his life. (And he means gay in both senses of the word: happy and homosexual.)
They're at a pride parade and they're marching with thousands of other people. Everyone is smiling and yelling and chanting and singing, and everyone there is dressed as if a rainbow threw up on them.
And it's all thanks to Finn that he's here. Finn was the one who convinced Carole and Burt that it was totally a good idea to fork out however much money so they could go to New York City. Finn was the one who casually mentioned that they just happened to be going the same day as the pride parade. Finn was the one who had woken them all up that morning and told them that they should eat Fruit Loops for breakfast because Fruit Loops look like rainbows.
Finn seems to be totally cool with the whole thing too. He's grinning around at everyone and struck up a conversation with a transgender woman when they first got here. He casually shrugs and says, "I'm straight," when people ask him what his sexuality is. And right now he's waving his flag around, has his arm around Kurt, and is chanting along with everyone else.
Best. Brother. Ever.
After the parade is over, Burt and Carole decide that they're old enough and smart enough to be allowed to wander off, as long as they meet back in a few hours. So Kurt and Finn walk around Times Square together, and Kurt is positively basking in the glow of acceptance and brotherly love.
And when Finn nudges him in the side and tells him, "That guy over there is totally checking you out," and all but shoves him in that direction, Kurt decides that he is so going to buy Finn tickets for Rock of Ages later.
They guy's name is Danny and he's from the city. He tells Kurt that his parents think he's meeting up with some friends and going to a basketball game. He just needed one day to be reminded that there's nothing wrong with him, so he came here instead. Kurt links arms with Danny and tells him all about Lima and how the entire city is like that and how he just lucked out and got the most accepting and loving family possible.
Danny phones his parents and tells them that he and his friends are going to see a comedy show and that he'll be home late. Kurt calls his dad and tells him that he and Finn are going to see a musical. Kurt then finds Finn, links arms with him too, and drags his brother and his new friend off to see Rock of Ages. It's loud and obnoxious and campy and silly and when Lonny the narrator tells them to say hello to the person next to them, then, "No! Not the person you came with, the other person next to you. The one you don't know yet. The one you're gonna be making out with by the end of the show," Kurt laughs and looks over at Danny, noticing that the other boy is blushing.
They don't end up making out by the end of the show, but Finn gets the phone number of the girl he was sitting next to.
Danny meets up with them again the next day, and even though there's not another parade, there's a whole section of Central Park with tents and a giant barbeque and information tables and music and even more rainbows. Kurt just walks around with Danny and Finn, talking to the people sitting at the tables and seeing same-sex couples everywhere, holding hands and kissing and walking with their arms around each other.
It's kind of the best day ever.
