Hey everyone! This is my first Merlin Fanfiction. I was inspired to write this after watching "the last dragonlord". I also thought about the small conversation that Uther had with Arthur shortly after his recovery in 1.13. I just felt like it had to be written! And I wrote this just after I watched it... wich was 10 minutes ago! =D

Disclaimer: I don't own Merlin... but i do wish i could meet Colin Morgan and Bradley James... they seem like awesome people.

Guardian Angel

As he stared into the mist that was surrounding Camelot that night, Uther felt nothing but sorrow and grief. He knew Arthur would not come back from this quest, even though he has returned from others with equally impossible odds. He thought about his sons brush with death during the instance with the Questing Beast. Everyone, including Gaius, was certain that he would not live through the poisonous bite.

The king recalled something that Arthur had said to him shortly after his recovery;

"I think there's someone watching over me… keeping me from harm."

"Maybe your right, on your long journey to become king… you'll need a guardian angel."

Maybe… just maybe… that guardian angel is watching over him now, and will bring him back safely. Before he could deny the possibility of that happening, he spotted two figures emerging from the fog. Uther felt his heart skip a beat when he realized that one of those figures was… Arthur. Relief swept over the king as he smiled to himself. Then he noticed who the other person walking alongside his son was; Arthurs manservant, Merlin. He found himself thinking back on another conversation he had, only this one was with Merlin.

"You've shown…most extraordinary loyalty…"

"That is my job sire."

"Beyond the line of duty."

"Well… you could say… there is a bond between us."

"I'm glad… look after him."

Then it all made sense. He didn't know how- nor was he sure if he even wanted to know- but somehow… every time Arthur was faced with danger, Merlin would be right there beside him and every time, Arthur would be returned home safely.

Only now does he see that Arthur does have a guardian angel watching over him… and his name is Merlin.

So? What did you think? I was not sure how to write the ending part. i wanted Uther to have the realization that Merlin was magic, but i wasnt sure on how to put it into words. I just couldnt think of the right way to say it, so i just went with him not being sure but at the same time he had his suspicions (not sure if he even wanted to know). Please review! I would love to know what you think!
