JJ had taken a seat next to Emily on the couch they had recently agreed upon buying, after Slink, Emily's cat had knocked a coffee mug over onto the couch they found the couch was more broken in and were more inclined to keep it. Emily moved over and wrapped her arms around the smaller woman pulling her against her to tell her what was wrong. JJ sighed and nuzzled Emily's neck, taking comfort in the close contact.

"Please JJ." Emily whispered and JJ sighed again.

"I trusted my brother, Jason, with my life growing up. We were the best of friends, inseparable. I came out to him my senior year, right around Christmas, he seemed to be really ok with it. We joked about it a lot, that we'd go as each other's wingman. Thankfully we have two very different tastes in women. Slowly though, he started to pull away from me, I didn't see it till it was far to late to save our relationship, he rarely talks to me anymore. For years he would hold it over my head till I came out to my parents, I never realized that he was as heartless as he was till lately." JJ sighed again and Emily tightened her grip on JJ.

"Go on." Emily kissed her cheek.

"He sent me a letter, he has cancer. I don't know if I want to go see him." JJ held back a sob. "He was horrible to me, and now he doesn't even say sorry no he wants me to go see him though." JJ filled with anger again and Emily nuzzled her neck.

"Whatever you chose I will love you either way." Emily said as her phone rang. JJ grabbed the old flip phone and chuckled.

"God we need to update your phone."

"Hey don't diss my phone, I ran it over and it still works!" JJ chuckled as Emily answered the phone.

"Emily Prentiss." Emily smiled. "Hey Mr. Jareau, how are you…" JJ couldn't hear the other line but Emily's face gave everything away. "I'll tell her, yes… I guess we'll see you soon." Hanging up the phone Emily pulled JJ closer to her. "Baby, I have some news, it's going to be hard and I want you to know that it's ok to cry."

"Emily just tell me." JJ said worried.

"Jason died two hours ago." JJ gasped and Emily wrapped her arms tightly around the younger woman as she buried her face into her neck. "Your father said he wants us at the funeral, and that you're in the will…"

Three days later Jason was buried and JJ couldn't bring herself to cry since she learned the news. Emily held her hand every chance she got, fearing sooner or later JJ would break. At the estate reading JJ stood at the very back scowling at every other person in the room, none of them she knew besides Jason's wife.

"Jennifer, your brother has strict instructions that you must get this first and read it here." The lawyer said and JJ took the paper from him.

Dearest Jennifer,

Sorry about the cold-shoulder for so long. Baby sister, I have to say something that after years of being mean and rude to you I never told you. I was not trying to be mean, I was worried to lose the sister I had grown up with. You came out to me and changed my whole world, I couldn't stop thinking that maybe I did or didn't do something to change what you became. I viewed it as something bad, and unfortunately you wont take my calls to let me talk to you. I wish I could just sit next to you one last time to tell you how amazing you really became. Jenny you are the most amazing person no matter what anyone says. I am so deeply sorry for everything I have done to you, and I hope you have a great long, perfect life with Emily.

Jason

JJ was bawling by the time she finished the letter and Emily was holding her up. Then the lawyer handed JJ a large box, opening it she found dozen things from their childhood, and sitting on top was their mother's wedding ring. Taking the small box she opened it and found another paper.

JJ,

Use this to marry her.

Jason.
