"Do you mind if I sit here?" Percy Weasley asked Hermione Granger. It was late and they were the only ones in the common room, working on homework.

"No go ahead, I'm just finishing up some extra credit assignments," Hermione said as she scooted over to make room for him on the couch.

"Oh, me too," Percy said sitting. They worked in silence for a while and then Hermione went to dip her quill in a bottle of ink just as Percy did too. Their hands brushed together. They felt a zing of electricity between them, or maybe it was their imaginations. "Sorry," Percy apologized.

"No, my fault," Hermione said, blushing slightly. They went back to their essays. I never noticed…how nice he is. How sweet… Hermione thought.

She's the only person in this whole school besides me who takes schoolwork seriously, Percy thought.

"Percy?" Hermione asked, and he was snapped out of his reverie. He looked at her, eyebrows raised.

"Do you think you could explain this to me? I get the concept…just not this particular example," Hermione said holding out her transfiguration book. They both knew Hermione really didn't need his help but he went along with it. They continued to work together, closer to each other than they had to be. "So, it would be according to both the second and third sections of the law of transfiguring?" she asked looking up at him.

Her face was inches away from his. He tried to concentrate. "Yes, yes uh, because of the third and- and- second sections…" he trailed off.

She smiled. "That's what I said." He smiled goofily and they continued their work. "What about this?" she asked pointing to a picture of people transfiguring their hands and feet. "How does that work?" Percy knew the definition was on that very page and smiled a bit that she wanted him to explain.

"Let me show you," he said, holding her hand. He showed her the advanced magic of transfiguring her hand and then they finished their assignments with each other's help. They stood up gathering their things. "Hermione?" Percy asked.

"Yes?" she asked looking up at him. He fidgeted with the strap of his bag before spontaneously swooping down to kiss her cheek. She blushed. "Good night," he said. She stood up on her tip toes and kissed his cheek.

"Good night Percy," she said. Ron watched from the stairway, unseen by the two.
