Sam watches them sleep, his wife and his baby girl, curled up in the recliner near the window. The first rays of dawn caress little Mary's face, bathing her dainty features in a golden glow as she dozes chest to chest with Sarah.

He's spellbound, transfixed by the tableau of mother and child. He cannot imagine a more perfect moment, a deeper happiness—until Sarah opens her eyes and smiles at him and his heart overflows with joy.
