Author's note: This is a scene extension set after Lisbon tells Danny to leave, without actually saying it, before Jane says thanks, dabbing at the left over fake blood near his mouth, missing the streak on his cheek. Finishes just before Jane meets up with Danny once again at the cemetery.
"Thank you," said Patrick Jane louder again, amused when Lisbon averted her gaze, Danny now long gone.
"Perhaps you need a hearing test," he offered amiably when she declined to respond for the third time.
Lisbon didn't bother responding to that either as she lifted her head, content with rolling her eyes instead.
Jane just grinned wider.
Giving up on the very one-sided conversation, Lisbon waved her hand at the consultant impatiently, gesturing him forward. "Get over here," she ordered.
He complied.
Lisbon snatched the handkerchief from his hand and placed his hand at his chin. Tilting his face, she dabbed at the streaky red mark on his cheek that he'd missed several times over.
"Why Lisbon," said Jane, wide-eyed at her ministrations. "If I'd known you cared..."
"I'm armed, you know?" she warned him, thrusting out her hip slightly to knock against his leg. "I could still make this blood very real."
"Imagine all the paperwork," reasoned Jane. "And the nasty clean up."
"But if it made me Patrick Jane-free, it might just be worth it," Lisbon finished deceptively sweetly, patting his cheek.
Jane winced. Her tap carried weight.
Lisbon stepped back and tugged the door open further before waving him by. "Now get a move on."
Patrick Jane waltzed past her with an air of playfulness, but as he made his way downstairs to his car, he felt his good mood fading.
Watching Lisbon drive off in the SUV, the darkness hit him full force. It always seemed a little brighter when she was around. Not that he would ever say it to her face.
He sighed, reached for the car door and prepared himself for what he had to do.
Finito.
