For Him

"What do they see in the light that amuses them?" she thought as she turned one way then another, trying to avoid the blinding glare. To her, the light only made things clearer. Only pointed out the flaws you didn't want people to see. When you lived in the dark, there was no judgment. No competition to be "fairest of them all".

She sighed as she began to walk towards the brightness, desperately wishing she could turn back. She did this for him. She combed her hair so he would hold her hand in the hallway. She wore make-up so he would kiss her cheek at lunch or quickly in class. The new colors in her clothes kept him wanting to tear them off. She did this all for him. Yet he did so much more for her.

When she combed her hair he ran his hands through it as he kissed her, messing it up. He would take her hand afterwards, saying he thought it was cute all ruffled. In the moments he was about to kiss her, he would cup her face and wipe some of the make-up off. He told her she looked pretty without it. And he told her she could keep wearing black. Because to him, she was beautiful no matter what. He never told her to stop what she was doing. But he told her that she never had to change for him. It would be for her.

Suddenly, he grabbed her from behind, pulling her into her dark room.

"You don't have to do this." He said. "I'll go through any darkness for you."

"I know." She replied. "But I want to do this. For you too."
