E v e r y thing had been wonderful, back then,

Or maybe it was because he was young.

But nothing had been as good as her:

Charity. She was perfect,

in every single way.

Her soft brown curls,

Her open s m i l e,

Her warm heart.

Too good for him, Charlie (nobody),

just a boy who liked dragons, not causes.

Too good for a world

So full of greed and mistakes.

Unlike her, he wasn't brave enough to

Speak his mind,

So Charlie had never said it. There was

No I love you,

No sweet kisses,

No clasped hands,

No happily-ever-after.

Nothing.

Not yet.

O

The time had passed him by.

Charlie had missed his chance;

He had (never quite) moved on.

Not the distance,

Not his reality,

Could keep Charity

from his thoughts (and dreams).

And so, he had w a i t e d...

Life passed slowly...

(There was no rush, was there?)

Until, suddenly, there was

A war.

(And it was all too fast, too much)

Fighting. Fear.

Family in danger.

Over the edge,

Into the darkness.

Only, it had not claimed them, but

Her. Charity.

Her truth & her honesty

Had led her to

Her grave.

She was gone,

(goodbye)

Taking every maybe into death,

Leaving every should have with Charlie.

She had died for her beliefs,

And he had lived with his regrets.

No I love you,

No sweet kisses,

No clasped hands,

No happily-ever-after.

Nothing.

Not ever.
