A/N #1: This is just a quick one-off I've been thinking over the past few days. Any and all mistakes are mine.
A/N #2: I do not own the characters. If I did they would do two bed scenes (or three) each episode.
A/N #3: Happy holidays. :)
"Fifth straight day of rain," Maura mumbled as she looked out the window up to the gray sky.
"You say that like it's a bad thing," Jane replied with a smirk.
Maura looked back at Jane and smiled. "I was merely making an observation." She walked over to Jane and wrapped her arms around her neck. Jane slipped her arms around Maura's waist and lovingly pressed their lips together. Jane broke away first and took Maura's hand in hers. She turned in the direction of her bedroom and gently tugged Maura along.
"Again?" Maura asked with amusement in her voice. "I can barely move from this morning!"
Jane laughed. "No, I just want to curl up with you and rest. Pleeeease?" Jane gave Maura her best puppy dog look that Maura could never say no to.
Maura chucked. "Okay," and they walked the rest of the way to Jane's bedroom hand in hand.
Jane Rizzoli couldn't recall ever being in love. In like, yes, but not love. At least not until Maura Isles walked into her life in her designer boots. Upon realizing her feelings, Jane's initial reaction was to run. It was actually her younger brother Frankie who convinced her to go for it.
"Don't be a quitter, Janie," Frankie had said to Jane. "If you don't take a chance, someone else will, and all you'll be left with are a handful of what-ifs and a heart full of regrets."
Frankie's advice paid off. Jane got the girl and not one week later they were snuggled together in Jane's bed on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
"Ya wanna know something?" Jane quietly asked Maura while tracing random patterns on her stomach. She didn't wait for an answer. "This was my favorite sound when I was a kid. Listenin' to the rain as I fell asleep."
"Really?" Maura asked. "Why is that?"
"Well, the sound of rain is just soothing to me, you know? Almost musical. And, it's like, no matter what's goin' on, the rain has this way of just washin' away all of life's crap for awhile." Jane felt Maura nod her head which meant she understood what Jane said.
Jane spoke again. "Ya wanna know somethin' else? Recently the rain became a close second to my favorite sound."
Maura asked, "What would that be?"
Jane looked up from her position over Maura's chest into her eyes and said sincerely, "Your heartbeat."
